*Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
Hey all...
Just a quick reminder for those with aftermarket rims and low profile tires...
CAREFUL WITH THE POTHOLES!!!
This past weekend wasn't able to avoid hitting one and ended up chewing the sidewall of the tire with the rim...
Fortunately there was no damage to the rim, however the tire (with less than 200 miles) is now USELESS... *sighs*
Anyhow... just be careful out there...
Latahs...

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
Hi all...
Well, i guess my life cant be without any drama wether it be from one thing or another...
Yesterday i finally got my tire to replace the one damaged in the whole pothole incident... and took it first thing today to have it mounted to the rim... they called me to tell me it was ready so i headed down to pick it up and...
Somehow they managed to:
a) Gouge the edge of one of the SPOKES.
b) Pake a pinky finger tip DIMPLE on the side of the same spoke.
c) Scratches in the surrounding area.
THey dont know how it got there... So they are going to send the rim to the mainland to have it repaired...
WTF!?!?!?!? Is like COME ON!!! Can't anything go freaking right with my car or what i bought for it!?!?!? *sighs*
$350 poorer and I AINT got my rims on... aahhhh...
I guess it could always be worse...
I'm outtie...

I really doubt ANY shop would agree to replace one of my rims...
The shop I took my tire to be mounted (this time) was to Pacific Automotive... they've taken action so far as far as repairing it so i cant complain much about it... at least not yet... hopefully they dont try to screw me over like Eurosport... which btw, i still havent settled with them...

Yo dawg...you gotta hit up the State Dept. of Finance...My friend did the same thing with his Civic and actually bent his rim...Just make a claim to the State and they will handle it for you or pay you back...If possible, take a pic of the pothole too...Hope this helps!!!...Lates!

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
Is that even possible though? I mean i'd figure State would try to wash their hands on the subject... or take foreever to do anytihng about it... ???
There are so many potholes in that stretch of the street that i have no idea which one it actually is... any should do... right?
I'll take a look into it, thanks for the advice!

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
FYI...
After calling who knows how many numbers found out the following:
If the pothole is in a City and County Road you gotta call:
523-4381 for more info (you can pickup the forms at any Satellite City Hall - Negligent Claim Form or something like that)
If the pothole is on a State Road you gotta call:
831-6712 for more info (you can either ask them to fax you the forms or pick them up yourself, not sure where they are at though)
Other than that just fill out the forms and wait...
We'll see how long it takes for this thing to be settled... *crossing fingers*
Be careful out there...

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
Got a letter from the State of Hawaii Risk Management Office...
Basically saying that IF they accept liability, i'll need to present to them the following documents in order for them to consider my claim...
1.- Documentation that the incident occurred at the specified location (ie: police report, tow bill, etc, etc.)
2.- Photographs of the damages
3.- Purchase invoice for tires/rims
4.- Verification/documentation that the rim is not repairable
5.- Documentation of the damaged tire prior to the incident (ie
urchase invoice indicating mileage)
6.- Vehicle registration, insurance card, and reconstruction permit if applicable.
So, if you guys ever damage a tire/rim with a pothole make sure you have the above documentation.
In my case I didn't know anything about the process and will most likely not get any reimbursement since i'm missing many of those documents... specially the police report...

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
ShikoKaon,
I feel for you bud, but things might not be as bad as you might think.
1. Location of accident & time are not a problem for you to get. I would get a picture of the pothole before by some ungodly chance the State/County actually gets the pothole crew on it and fills it up.
As far as a police report, that's a bunch of BS. I got hit back in '98/'99 only damage was a license plate impression in my back bumper and basically I was told by the police that if it wasn't at least several thousand dollars don't even bother, just report it to your insurance company. Never mind that I could have had whiplash or other spinal cord injuries that might not have manifested themselves until later.
2. Photographs of the damages. Get these asap with something in there to show scale (like a ruler). Get this on film with digital backup. Film will prove that the damages weren't a photoshop quick fix.
3. I would call whoever you bought your rims from and ask for a copy of the invoice. You should also get a copy of whatever form of payment you used (cancelled check or credit card statement).
4. ??? Is this what the State is asking for? It seems like you should present a quote(s) for what the estimated repair/replacement costs should be (from a reputable and quality repair shop).
5. If you bought tires with the wheels (or not) you should be able to get an approximate mileage on what the tires actually saw. Prorating the mileage is a method anyone should be reasonably expected to do. To prove anything beyond this would be ridiculous as the State is basically saying our roads suck and you should take pictures of your wheels before everytime you drive.
6. This information you should be able to produce.
Probably the worst part is that since this is only damage to one tire it might not be worth your pain and effort to document and prove.
Sigh....would have been wonderful for the State (& County) to realize that if they do not properly maintain the roads (that our tax dollars are paying for), we will make claims that would force them to make the proper repairs.

Re: *Hawaii* !*#*$&^ potholes...
Gzire,
Thanks for the feedback...
My timing was horrible... didn't got off my butt to start pursuing this as soon as i heard that it could be done (since i had no idea that i could get reimbbursed by the state for the damages and stuff therefore i didnt take any pictures of anything).
In other words... by the time i got around taking picture of the pothole it had been covered already, photographs of the damages didn't take any...
Basically all i have is pictures of the covered potholes, the receipts for the tire, and labor to mount the tire, and thats about it... and the cell phone log of a phone call to AAA for towing...
I doubt that that'll work but i'll still go ahead and file if they throw the case out then oh well i have nothing to lose as of right now...
IF i would have known all the papers and whatnot they needed when it happened i would have done it right then and there, but unfortunately i didn't know about it and by the time i knew about it and got off my lazy butt to do it, it was too late already...
