Maxima se tried to race me tonite...err..dis morn...

so this guy in a maxima SE (i'm assuming '01) tried to race me on the freeway this early morning. we were doing like 60 on the freeway and he started pulling hard past me. then, when he passed me, he started slowing down and rollled down his window. needless to say but I could only see his eyes and his teeth ( i musta been buzzed )...then he pulls off. i'm like "*** dat", I don't need a ticket for wreckless endagerment, or a speeding ticket. you think a maxima SE could've beat me...honestly. ??? Are the '01 the same motor?? i dunno. sorry....had to vent small kine. I mean, if I wasn't in 6th gear (gas saver), I prolly woulda had some fun. oh well...

Better not to bother street racing him Beangrower. You would have smoked him if he was 2001 and stock (222HP), in 02 the Maxima was bumped to 255HP with the great VQ.

Did he have smoked or clear tail lights (similar to the Altima)? A buddy of mine has a supercharged '01 Max and I've seen him smoke a 6MT G with exhaust, intake and other stuff done to it. SC'ed Maximas are pretty fast, same thing with 02/03 Maxes. A lot of them run mid 14s bone stock (and that's automatics). But the G's got to have the high end advantage.

Heh, I'd be the bad apple. I wouldve raced'em. If there was a cop? he'd go ahead and catch the slower car. it happend to me once, I was in the faster car Sorry, my heart still resides some, in street hooliganism

Dunno...given that the the Maxima has 255hp, FWD cars have less drivetrain loss than us, I just dont know by how much percent. I mean, look...our car's are rated near 290hp, and when I did my baseline Dyno...I made 232hp. Hard to say. I've been up and up with an N/A 300Z in my Mom's 95 Maxima SE AT/4. The only mods I've done to the car was a refurbished N/A 300Z ECU and a Stillen POP Charger. Till this day, the exhaust system is same from the day it left the showroom floor at Pacific Nissan back in Pearl City. Off the showroom floor my Dad took it down the 1/4 going 14.8@95mph, going through the shift gates. I could do some damage if I could further modify it...suspension tuning and brakes for roadrace. But it's my moms car...my Dad and I tried to be inconspicuous. Till this day, she things the POP charger is a factory item

that's what I'm saying. I had like a small itch. ...but nah, I don't even own the title to this car yet. :P I'm pretty sure he's on the maxima forums right now writing a kill story...."oh yeah, this g35 tried to keep up with me, but I dusted him in 4th gear". pfffffhhhhh...

Just checked the Maxima forums, didn't see the story in the weekend battles section Like I said, what color were his tail lights? Clear or black? Then I'd be able to tell you whether it was a 3.0 or a 3.5 Max.

So it must have been a '00/01 VQ30DE-K. There's only one SC available for it and that's the Stillen one. I have the same exact Maxima but no way can it pull on a G at that speed N/A.

That very Maxima (2002/3) was way overrated in the hp department.. it dynoed less and ran slower than a 240hp Altima 3.5SE. However they understated the torque so it made up for the difference. But don't let the numbers mislead you, a 240hp Alti is a monster compared to 222hp Maxima, even though it's rated only 18hp more at the crank.

A 2k/2k1 Maxima 5spd with y-pipe and intake with a good driver will give a G a very good run. Albeit the G SHOULD win but depends on driver skills and if the Max hits it first. The 2k/2k1 Maxima 5spd has a variable intake for high end and it has a wicked top end. But the G should prevail in the low end and espeically if it is a 6spd with a great driver. I have pulled on all the auto G's I have run on top end highway runs. They get me in the mid range about 110mph (mid my 4th gear and before the variable kicks in) and I pull back to about 125 and kept a solid lead to 145+. I think the G might have a speed limiter since it look like it hit a wall around 135ish. I never ran any 6spd Z or G. Never lost to any other Maxima or Altima. Mind you some very close runs. And I destroy the 4spd auto alti/max 2k2/2k3 on the highway after 110 since their gear sucks. Low end they have the torque for sure but my modded 5spd Max can go toe to toe with a stock alti/max 3.5 5spd or 6spd from a roll. Three basic bolt ons intake/y-pipe/b-pipe (~$500 in performance mods) thats it on my 3.0 engine. Never ran any modded ones though just random encounters on 3 lane open highways in remote parts of china. :-)

Bottomline an excellent driver in a 5spd (with a few mods) or 6 spd max will beat an Ok driver in a 6spd G. Stock Auto Gs will not pull away and might even lose. Much closer than most will think. ie. within a car length

Trust me I know this is my current car:

Just sold it for a 2005 M6 Sedan
