what about me?

i'm going to piggy back on this thread for the sake of not starting yet ANOTHER "which intake is best" thread, i'm sure you are all sick of it!

i live in seattle so there's a ton of rain and puddles everywhere, so it looks like the CAI would not be a smart idea. In addition it's usually pretty cool out here anyway so technically if a car is moving it is getting plenty of air circulation in the hood compartment so the short ram intake doesn't get heat soak, correct? (and especially with colder weather). Even if it wasn't cold I still believe heat soak is BS cause you get plenty of air moving into the compartment while moving. But feel free to tell me i'm wrong on this.

I also hear short ram gives the best gains for the G... now this is something I haven't been able to confirm. Price isn't an issue for me at all. I want the best looks and preferably a brand name that everyone knows (pretty silly huh? haha). First priority is noise though, I wan't something loud. If I gain performance, cool, if I lose some, I don't think I would like that. If I get a good looking intake with a great sound and performance is relatively the same, I'm okay with that.

Any suggestions? I'm guessing Injen? I hear Blitz is real good too?

anything helps here, thanks!

heat is always there.

I have a CAI. I drove 100 miles total each day. Per 50 miles to or from work. The intake gets freaking HOT, like unbearable hot.

So to answer your questions:

a. Heat circulation under the hood is very minimal or at least, NOT very effective.
b. There is no such thing as best branded intake or whatever. It's just a tube with good bend and good size with a good filter.

Eventhough the intake airflow is massive, the heat is still there.

So to keep the heat out for better gain, you can either:

1. Thermal coating your intake. Then you'd have to do that to your plenums as well. This will isolate then engine heat from the intake air temp. Good for CAI. Looks good too if you do it right. Kinda overkill.
2. Methanol injection. This will dramatically reduce the temp of the intake temperature. Can be expensive as #1, but much much more effective. You can use this with a SRI and be done with it without worrying about Hydrolocking in heavy rains and puddle with the CAI. However, you'd have to refill the tank everyone once a while (couple hundred miles depends on sizes)

Hope this help steer you in the right path.

Me, I'm having a CAI, but will go for #2. Save the $$ to polish my plenums instead

If you want any more info. Visit G35Frenzy for my reviews on custom setup. They're all Work in Progress.

^ i don't know, that's a bit hardcore... I was just looking for a good sound and good looks, since they are all basically the same in terms of performance. I definately don't want a stock look a-la Stillen

if money is no object as you said, MRC intake box is prob the best. i also heard good things about putting a pop charger filter inside the stillen box.

about a year

well i started this thread about a year ago and i wound up putting in the Stillen CAI+Z-tube - it has a nice deep aggresive tone but doesnt add much "prettiness" to the engine bay - IMO its the right one to go with

Why do you want an intake? Sound? You'll most likely lose power.

How does the Stillen air box compare to that of the stock 06 Rev-up improved air boxes?

Well im no expert and im not going to say anyone is wrong on their choices but im going to tell you what I no. I have a programmer that allows me to monitor just about every parameter in my vehicle. I have been monitoring my A/F RATIO, INTAKE TEMP, BATTERY VOLTAGE, AND FUEL MILEGE. I have notice that in 68 degree weather while moving the stock air box setup stays around 75-80 degrees and around 90-100 sitting still. The jwt popcharger with heat shield and aluminum z tube stays around 90-98 degrees moving but climbs to 100-145 degrees sitting still. Last night I removed the stock air vent that sits on top of the radiator and removed the heat shield to see if it would be better and boy was I wrong. It seemed to bring in cooler air while moving 75-80 degrees but sitting still the temperatures were over 150 degrees. Heat soak will kill your performance. So im going to be reinstalling my stock revup box and purchasing a plastic z tube. In my opinion the stock revup box, z tube and a quality panel filter is the best for my car. Hope this info helps?
