exhausting is right...

I've been wading through all the exhaust posts and I have it narrowed down to either HKS or stillen. I've listed and watched all the freaking wavs, mp3s, mpegs and I'm still not entirely convinced that hks is the way to go. otoh...I'm totally confused b/c these files generally alias something aweful or there's just a buttload of distortion. Can anyone help me with one question?

which sounds more ricey? the hks or stillen.

money doesn't really matter and I like a throaty growl note.

Both HKS and Stillen are great exhausts. I personally went with HKS and love it, but I suggest you find someone in your area with the exhaust you like and see if you want it. No video clip/pic will give you the real sound and look of the exhaust.

Grubbs Infiniti (near me) said that Borla was the quietest, Stillen the loudest, and Nismo in between. Stay tuned.

Decision made. I opted for the Borla system. Got it on today and drove ~1/2 hr. I think it will be just what I was looking for. Not very loud at all, almost no droning (so slight it's a curiosity). Things may change over time, but that's my initial evaluation.

So how about hi-flow cats? I assume these increase noise a bit. Very much?

As soon as Stillen comes out with their supercharger kit for this car, it's going on (anyone heard a date?).

anyways...

between the two exhausts (STILLEN vs. BORLA)i've heard a lot of good stuff about the Stillen exhaust, and in person, it fits what you want.. so i'd say go STILLEN

So it's been awhile since you installed the Borla. Still like it? Feel any performance gain? You said it's quiet... Is it at least louder than stock?

Good questions.

I have noticed a strange thing. At first, as best I could tell, there was no droning. But after a few days, I started noticing droning between ~1,500 -- 2,200 RPM, esp. in higher gears when pulling hard. This wasn't noticeable when the engine was cold. Say what?!

So we loosened all the bolts and clamps from the cats back (including the cat cross brace) and retightened, front-to-back. Droning quit.

I dunno, but I suspect that heat puts the system in a bit of a bind and transmits vibrations that can be heard. If this is what's going on, a flex joint just after the cats may be the best fix.

I can't say as to power. This car is too new to me.

I wish the system was a bit louder when getting on it hard. It is quiet at cruise, which I like.

As soon as the Stillen blower is available, it's going on the car. That will change everything.

Anyone else's thoughts very welcome!

Thanks for the reply. I want louder than stock but with a nice cruise note. Perhaps the droning issue is as simple as a "burn in" period with a loosen/retighten at xxxx miles. Although you should not have to do that, it's not unreasonable to assume that the system will expand/shrink and "settle" in.
