Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Z tube

I installed the Z tube a few weeks ago, nice sound with a bit of HP gain. Installed the Stillen CAI last night and it brought the whole thing to life. Nice throaty sound after 4000 RPM and a noticeable increase in HP. Install was really easy except that damn bolt on the bottom of the box that connects to the AC line connector. What a pain. My forearm is all bruised!

I just wish I never bought the K&N air filter for the stock intake box. Oh well. you live and you learn.

You could try to sell the K&N in our classifieds section. You can probably get 1/2 to 3/4 of your money back from it from someone looking to save a buck.

Re: Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Z tube

when you installed the Hi Flow CAI, did you notice a drop in your mileage? Did you have to reset the ECU? I've noticed about a 2mpg drop since I added my CAI.

I watch the fuel economy on my navi, and when I accellerate, the mpg is really low. When I let off, the mpg goes up. I don't think it was acting this way before the install.

Yes, i noticed a huge drop in my gas mileage, I just posted on the general forum and the Tech forum. Big drop in mileage. Perhaps we did something wrong? Maybe we need to re-set the ECU. How do we do that??

Re: Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Z tube

Why would CAI install drop MPG? Like I posted in couple other thread, the VQ is running fuel rich, giving it more air even out the mix ratio. Unless the ECU is sensing more air and therefore pump more fuel into an already fuel rich engine. This thing need some tuning. Anyone know a tool to tune the engine easily, some thing that can modify the air/fuel mix ratio?

Re: Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Z tube

Your drop in gas mileage is due to your heavy foot making
the stillen/350 Z tube "sing". Give it time, when it is not so
new to you and you are used to it, your mileage will come
back to normal.

I agree with cato. Your mileage drop is most likely due to you planting your right foot a little more often just to hear the nice sound of your new intake system.

I noticed a slight drop after installing my Stillen airbox and Z tube (I also did an ECU reset) but nothing like the drop I experienced when my car passed 1200 miles. I'll let you figure out why.

Re: Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Z tube

I have the Stillen Air Box and the Z tube in my sedan. Just got back off of a 1400 mile trip and got 24.2 mpg. I averaged about 75-80 mph all the way. I concur that the drop in mileage is probably due to being a "new" mod. After you get used to it, I'll bet your mileage improves.
