Stillen w/ AEM or Apexi filter?

To those of you who have replaced your Stillen intake with a dry filter, did you keep the Stillen ring on?

From my research on the forum seems like the correct K&N replacement would be RC-2960 (http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RC-2960) which makes the correct AEM replacement to be 21-209DK (http://www.aempower.com/ViewTopic.aspx?TopicID=9) assuming the Stillen ring is used.

However I can't seem to figure out which Apexi filter would be the right one and if the Stillen ring is recommended to be used with the Apexi filter, since it has a dual funnel and probably a different channeling of air flow.

Anyone with any idea about the Apexi filter and whether or not the Stillen ring should be use?

Also, does changing out to a dry filter change the sound of the Stillen intake whistle. Mine makes a metallic grinding whistling noise between 2000 and 3000 rpms.

With the AEM dry filter, I retained the ring. It does not fit all the way down on the ring, but over half way, and appears to be a very tight fit even before cranking down the clamp.
Can't say I notice any difference in sound. But I sure like the idea of there being no oil in the filter.

Speaking of which, I finally changed out my stillen filter with the aem filter this past weekend. The ring didn't fit all the way like others have said but it wasn't a tight fit like others have said it would be. It fit perfect.

you might be able to bring it down more if you lubricate the outer portion of the ring with like WD40

You should go w/the APEXi. GREAT flow, to find the right one jus mesure the Stillen one's dimmentions(opening, legnth, width at widest point). it should be pretty easy to find after that. Check on HorsepowerFreaks.com, they have filter sizes posted. yeah, bro custom mix is the way to go. i jus did somthin' similar w/the JWT PopCharger. I mounted a stainless-steel Blitz SUS filter to the JW velocity stack, sound's AMAZING... Seriously. well, here's a shot of my current intake set-up(still waitin' on my Cosworth plenum).

dang, old thread... you'd need a filter w/a 6" opening. don't think APEXi make's one of that size, sorry. you could always go w/the R2C repacment, like i did...
