3 inch exhaust - custom

I'm considering a new exhaust. I went to my local tuner shop and they are currently in the process of designing a 3 inch system (they will make the test pipes as well). That said, he offered to build one for me instead of purchasing the HKS.

This shop has installed many twin turbos on z's and g's and according to them the 3 inch is the way to go for both NA and FI.

I'll post the dyno results - he is going to send them to me next week.

Is this a good direction or bad advice?

Price was $1200 for stainless

3'' is good for f/i, not for n/a in these cars - you'll probably gain a little bit up-top and loose a but-load down low.

why would you need 3" exhaust? you're going to lose a tons of low end power and prolly won't see much top end, either.. you need some serious backpressure to utilize them.. unless you're talking about a single? custom 3" are super deep in tone, usually, but loud as hell.

your shop is on crack to tell you 3" is the way to go for NA.. he's just trying to sell you their business.

I agree. Our cars in N/A form dont have a large enough displacement to properly utilize 3" of exhaust.

Bigger ins't always better. It's maintaining high exhaust gas velocities that's key.

This will work fine for F/I but won't have enough torq to wipe your butt with
N/A!

Are we talking about 3" TD or a y-pipe to 3" mid to dual exit like the Fuji and JIC? Clearly a 3" TD is like blowing thru a paper towel tube for an NA motor. Anyone have a good assessment (NA) of the Fuji or JIC to share? I kinda think going from 2.25 HFCs to 2.5 y-pipe in to 3" y out into 3" mid pipe would create pulse and flow acceleration/amplification, like a megaphone does. Comments please?

These guys install a ton of twin turbos, so i assume that he was just trying to sell his service. i'm planning on some type of FI solution in the future but even so, 3'' at this point it sounds like a bad idea.
