Clogged Crawford Cats???

Anyone hear of a clogged Crawford Cat? What does 'clogged' mean and how does it happen? Thanks.

It seems hard for people to understand that oem cats are built to last a long time under abusive conditions, while aftermarket cats are designed to flow a tiny bit better at the expense of durability and ultimate life.

The honeycomb on aftermarkets is larger [holes less backpressure] but has a thinner thickness of cataylst material to save money.

Aftermarkets generally only last a few years at best and may fail a dyno emission test after 12 months - depending.

One of my random technology cats "clogged" on me. I was not able to hear or ascertain a difference in sound when it was clogged. The only way I was able to know that my cat was clogged was by dynoing the car and seeing a very wild air fuel ratio reading. Then my shop was able to remove the cats and by shaking them you can hear that the core of the catalytic converter was loose/partly imploded.

I then had used crawford high flow cats put on. They lasted about 30k miles before my passenger side (same as the RT cats) imploded as well. This time the cat core has completely imploded and parts/fragments of it blew into my Borla exhaust tubing/muffler! My shop that I go to (and i know you're familiar with them too as they are a mod friendly dealership) had to remove the cats, disassemble my borla exhaust and clean out all the debris!

I am now using Fast intention high flow ceramic cats. I'm going to see how long these last...
