Anyone using exhaust cut-outs?
I just purchased a turbo kit and Im looking at purchasing some supporting mods. I still have my stock exhaust and was wondering if anyone has tried using exhaust cut-outs instead of replacing the whole exhaust. Reason is I love the way the stock exhaust sounds, but I know it will be too restrictive when in boost.
I had seen a while back some cut-outs that work off vacuum/boost. I need to find the link to them. But is anyone using cut-outs? Also what size diameter is the stock exhaust?
Edit: here's a link to the boost activated exhaust cut out...

what size cut out did you use and where did you mount it? I'm thinking of going with the electric one. Question now is whether to use a single cut out after the y-pipe or use 2 of them on the y-pipe itself. Im thinking using 2 of them would be better than using 1...

i had the resonator in the midpipe replaced with the cutout. to be quite honest, i really miss having it.

socalted put two on his ypipe.
someone else also put two on - one on each test pipe.
i went with the dmh performance e-cutout. i think it was 2.25" or 2.5" (sorry, i don't remember what the stock piping diamter is.
I've been interested in these for years, but I just felt like it would cause too much turbulence when closed. You really wouldn't benefit from it unless you're F/I. I don't see how an N/A car would see any noticeable gains?

I will be going forced induction soon; this is why Im searching for exhaust options. And yes I plan on doing this to the stock exhaust and Im thinking the closer to the downpipes the better. less backpressure is great on turbo setups...
The e-cutouts slowed down Ted's car, but that was because he was NA. I think an e-cutout would be a great idea with forced induction. I'd suggest putting the cutout just to the south of the muffler. That way you can keep up the exhaust velocity and keep the volume to a halfway sane level. You'd gain some power by putting the cutout closer to the turbo, but damn it gets noisy, especially when the cutout is under the car.
