Borla or NISMO?

Hey guys, my wife just bought me a set of Borla headers for christmas. The only problem is that they haven't been delivered yet. I was wondering which ones are better? Borla or Nismo. My wife said that we could get the Nismo headers instead if the Borla's don't show up soon. She bought them on Ebay and we haven't heard anything from the sellers since the payment went through using paypal.

Why would you go Nismo? I wouldn't know which one to go with either.

Re: Borla or NISMO?

Well I went ahead and cancelled the order for the Borlas last night. The seller from Ebay E-mailed me and said that Borla is back ordered on the headers. So I think I will go with the NISMO headers or maybe check out these BRM headers that one of the other guys pm'd me about. Thanks for your input guys. Personally I like to think that Nismo would be better just because they're from NISSAN, of course that's not always true is it.

Re: Borla or NISMO?

I believe the NISMO headers may be slightly backordered too. I know as of about 2 weeks ago they were on a national backorder and I haven't heard anything change since, but I would just have to call to find out for sure. I had a set of BRM headers on my desk for probably a week or so and they looked very similar to the NISMO headers as far as fit and finish.

Re: Borla or NISMO?

Hi guys....

Hopefully I can clear up some confusion here.

I am the Chief Operating Officer for BRM Exhaust, and we carry a header set and a catback for the G35coupe. Our header set is very similar to the NISMO units, with a few minor differences: Ours are TIG welded rather than MIG welded, the finish on the welds is cleaner (since they're not mass-produced) and they're $300-$500 cheaper than the NISMO units. Otherwise, they're identical. Sixteen-gauge T-304 stainless steel construction, equal-length tubing, 3/8" billet stainless flanges. 9 hp through 3800-6000rpm, 13 hp / 13 lb/ft gain at peak. The stainless units retail for $800 and the mild-steel units retail for $650. As you can see, this represents a huge savings over the $1200 NISMO units.

The "other" headers ("long-tube" designs such as Stillen, Xerd and others) eliminate the factory cats and as such are not legal for street use. Of course, some states are more lax than others, but why sacrifice the legality of your $35,000 car to gain 1-2 hp? The factory cats are actually quite free-flowing and well-designed.

Our catback system is also a full stainless design, and offers a 9hp and 10 lb/ft gain at peak... It;'s a beautifully finished unit and can be installed quickly... It retails for $995, and a few G35driver.com members have installed the BRM catback and are quite pleased with it.

I hope this helps clarify some of the questions - On a personal note, I am also a Senior Administrator for NICO and have been an Infiniti guy since the early 90's. As such, we at BRM are committed to taking great care of our Infiniti owners.

Blessings,

Greg Childs

Re: Borla or NISMO?

RazorX35,

Please do a search on my350Z. You'll probably eliminate one of your first two choices... assuming you want headers for increased power.

Mr. Childs' statement regarding Stillen's current production headers is incorrect. I'd recommend you research his BRM headers as well as Stillen's and decide which are best based on your priorities.

I've included a picture of Stillen's Header's. They are available in stainless and ceramic coated carbon steel.

Re: Borla or NISMO?

No offense, but since they both come out of the same shop, your "bias" will cost you $300 more. I'd challenge anyone to tell the difference between the two (with the exception of the fact that the BRM product has cleaner welds and a nicer finish).

NISMO has overhead costs and advertising expenses that we don't have. They're passed on to the customer with every sale...
