HELP...OPINIONS...FI intimidator exhaust installed

Just installed the Fasting intentions intimidator exhaust
Now I have Strup headers and FI metallic cats

OMG this exhaust is loud; it vibrates everything in the cabin. IS this normal? I’m actually depressed with this modification. The exhaust looks beautiful and was built VERY well. But the SOUND IS so loud it’s obnoxious

If I put my stock cats back on, will that mellow the sound a bit?

I can’t drive my car this way

yes the stock cats will quiet it down somewhat, but your headers are contributing a lot of noise. excessive vibration in the cabin is probably not normal. check all the connections and make sure your test pipes aren't hitting the metal by them.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have them check the connections. Maybe I'll get rid of the Metalic cats for the stock ones. It's just VERY load, every gear...every RPM

aftermarket headers plus stock cats = waste

if you're gonna lose anything, lose the headers (although it may be costly for the uninstall labor...).

Yep...

Bottleneck effect. Either get use to the sound, or possibly get a difference exhaust.

IMO, I've heard FI with headers and cats and its nothing too loud.

So I drove the car last night for a few hours and again this morning to work. The exhaust sounds mean, a very low rumble tone, very aggressive. I wish I could lower the DB by like 10, because the tone is so low and loud, it resonates everything in the cars cabin and kind of messes with your hearing. When you get on it, it screams and sounds insane. I wish there was some sort of silencer I could put in like the DC sports exhaust or something just for my daily commute.

The issue you have is the headers. Once those are added, especially with HFC's, you will get drone at the bottom end. Are you AT or MT. AT's inherently have drone issues.

Just saw your sig - you will have less than others. Where are you located?

i have the same problem as you speedgeek, although i bought the exhaust off of someone else. i also bought brand new FI 300 cell HFCs.

In combination with them both, my whole cabin rumbles and it's really loud. From the sounds of it, it looks like you have the same problem too. The only difference is that you have Strup headers and I'm still stock.

I'm surprised you're getting the same problem as well because you got a Rev-up engine while I have a 03 with non rev-up. With non rev-up my RPMs for cruising, for example, are much lower than yours. I would imagine your RPMs would be around 3k-3.5k during cruising.

In any case, I feel ya speedgeek. My exhaust is loud as well and I'm contemplating on whether to keep it or not. I talked to Tony about it and from whatever diagnostic tests over the phone and email he could do remotely, as I'm not near the shop, he says the exhaust is fine. I'm not too sure what to do. Keep it and live with the loud deep noise in the cabin or switch to another, or just go back to stock.......

Hi Super,
Yup, the back window shakes, who needs a subwoofer

I've been googling around a lot this morning, found a few options. The basic insert able silencer on each tip (I’m not sure of size to get)
Or an electronic silencer gate that goes in each pipe and allows you to control the sound from inside the car

defeats the whole purpose of gettin an exhaust, and i think your cabin noise is mostly from your headers and cats. i think you should just get the insertable silencers. that electronic unit looks expensive.

see, i don't want anything insertable. i agree with izmir that it defeats the whole purpose of getting an aftermarket exhaust. I didn't buy an exhaust only to find out I need "electronic" accessories to silence the exhaust. That's ridiculous.

i personally thought i was the only person in this boat because i bought my exhaust used and could never experience what a NEW FI Intimidator exhaust sounds like. But now, speedgeek, you have a 6MT, you have Rev-up engine, and you have a NEW exhaust and yet your exhaust is still loud which makes me wonder if we're both having the same problem.

For me, I can hardly speak on the phone because at 6th gear cruising on the freeway, I'm sitting at around 2.7k which gives that "ohhhhhhhhhhhm" sound throughout the cabin.

You guys say that it's because of the headers and cats. I can believe that but if I were to buy the HKS and I kept my FI 300 cell cats or speedgeek kept his FI cats and Strup headers, I'm willing to bet that the cabin noise will be minimal but the sound outside will be friggin awesome.

I'm not doubting the FI exhaust because I think it's unique and it's very well made but if this is an issue, then I might have to get rid of it then =/

Its not he FI Exhaust, its the headers and cats combo. My FI exhaust is perfect - not too loud, no drone and incredible sound.
One of my former cars was a 300ZX TT. When I added hi flow cats and headers to a custom exhaust the drone was so bad I almost couldn't stand to drive the car (the 440 horsepower was the only thing that made the noise remotely tolerable). After about 3 months, I put the stock cats and headers back on it to save what little hearing I had left!
