350Z Intake Tube (install problem)

Can anybody who installed a 350z intake tube tell me if this is normal not to be able to get the tube on completely near the air cleaner? Hard as I try, I can't get it to line up. Note the left side is further away than the right.

If not, how the #$# do I get it to go? I tried a pliers to force it but it keeps slipping back.

I should also mention that in the install guide I followed it appears that they didn't get it right, but I would hate for it to slip off while I'm driving. Really want to get it right here.

Thanks

You should be able to use one hand to hold the pipe tight (to prevent that misalignment) and the other to tighten the clamp. If it's off a hair I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the clamp is tight. The accordian section in the pipe right there allow it to stay connected, even when the motor moves.

nate,

I've removed and replaced my Z air duct several times. Try loosening the air case bolt and removing the air duct holdown bolt. With a little wiggling and a few cuss words you should be in business. Be sure to replace and snug the hold down bolts... don't overtighten them.

You could also try warming the bellows part up a bit to make it more flexible and stretch it gently out. Just don't apply too much heat to the opening as you don't want to distort it at all!

the Z tube should have no problem fitting over the MAF Housing pipe... it is the same exact part that is seen on the Z...

Im sure you have tired looseing the clamp all the way...

Put some more muscle into it? iit should just pop on..

im going to be doing a Z-Tube / Pop Charger step by step install with photos soon...

nate, I had the same issue when I first installed the tube. You just need to wiggle it a little bit with a little force. It fits find without the gap you showed. Good luck.

Re: 350Z Intake Tube (install problem)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did end up getting it all the way on. Used a hair dryer to warm it up (ridges sure are more rigid than the stock one). Then applied some lubricant (OK, I used saliva - ewwww - as I was afraid of what the wrong chemicals would do and the warm water and soap was too much effort at this level of frustration). I then gently nugged the connecting tube on the intake over as I used a wrench side to push the tube on (same hand). And finally used a powered screwdriver to tighten. So far, so good! My arrows don't quite line up, about 1/4 inch off, but good enough for me.

By the way, I did a bunch of sound clips before and will do some after ones so we can hear the difference. I could detect it, but it will be better to hear side by side on same car in same environment. Will post later when I get a chance.

Re: 350Z Intake Tube (install problem)

When I put my z tube on I had no problems at all .Make sure you have the hold down bolt off and make sure you dont have the other end connected to the plenum on to far .The belows part of the tube will stretch out a bit .As was said before hold it on with 1 hand and tighten with the other

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old
