best intake?..
best intake?..
ive been wanting to put an intake in my 04 g 2 dr coupe and was wondering whats the best intake out there to get in performanc wise?..id search and all i see is the stillen, aem, fuljita, & injen.
your stock intake matched with a high flowing filter, such as the amsoil dry nano filter, would be best.
but if you're looking for something completely aftermarket, a z-tube/stillen intake with a jwt p/c filter/aem dry filter would be "best."

intakes do crap for our cars performance wise, so i'm hoping you're looking more for sound or you'll be disappointed. z tube/jwt and z tube/stillen is most popular and cheapest, but injen/nismo cai gives the best "sound"

Intakes......pro & con!
Other than the sound intakes do little for performance! But, once you add
the cat-back exhaust along with MREV2 and 5/16" spacer I wouldn't want
to be without the Stillen intake/Z-tube combo......you see they all work
togeather to add substantial HP to our cars! Other than force induction
this is the way to go when you desire just a few more pony!

Ahh, the good old battle of "does the intake add performance" debate. In theory if you are just adding a intake then no it will not work. If you are adding more breathing mods to your car...intake, plenum spacer, exhaust, headers, or anything like that then yes an air intake will help you out. You also have to factor in the factory ECU, which will only allow for so much air in, which then only allows so much air out. If you get a piggy back system or ECU reflash after you have installed the mods - that is when you will feel the difference in power.
As far as which one is the best...well that's "my dad is better than your dad" it just depends on what you like. They will all add just about the same amount of power - so little from one another that you will not be able to tell the difference between "this" one and "that" one.

This topic has been beaten to death. You can search and find some wonderful info.
As far as intakes for our cars, they aren't really considered a performance mod. Sure, other cars (like my brothers 07 GT) can gain a ton of power from an intake + tune, but our cars seem to already have an efficient intake.
Your best bet is to use a drop in filter on the OEM airbox, or go with Stillen if you want that great intake sound with a little more efficiency.
I have a Stillen, and did not notice any power gains in person, nor at the drag strip. But I do love the way it sounds

It was this EXACT debate on M3forum that inspired the Streamline SE panel filter.
So if you are in the market for a panel filter, the Streamline is the finest one you can put in your car. Check out the group buy thread for information and pictures.

I have the motordyne 1/2" spacer, z-tube and popcharger. I can def. tell a difference over stock, no doubt about it. I know butt dynos have a reputation for being horribly inaccurate sometimes, but I would bet that I have around 240rwhp. IMO the heat shield with the JWT pop charger does a really good job keeping the intake cooler than the rest of the engine bay. It is dyno proven for around 5whp gain (with the hood up). I would stay the hell away from CAIs. I've had them before on a honda -too much trouble cleaning filter (had to take off the wheel for god's sake, and everytime the streets flooded I would have to be really careful.)
OH yeah.... and some of my red neck buddies here in NC thought my car was a V8 because of the way it sounds now.
