New mod:Best of both worlds

Dunno if this has been done before so thought I'd share.
I have a jim wolf intake and one day I was cleaning the filter and saw the opening where the cold air pipe and filter goes if I were to install a cold air intake. I thought to myself thats a lot of wasted space and air.
So I went to the local Home depot and picked up some plumbers pipe (3 inch in diameter, about a foot and a half in length), went to closest performance shop and picked out a filter cone.

I basically strapped the filter to the end of the pipe, removed the jim wolf filter so I have more room to manuever. I lined up the pipe/filter in the cold air slot and aimed it so it shoots air directly to the jim wolf filter then strapped it down with metal clamps.

After install I took it for a spin... imagine the sound of jim wolf but times that by 2. Pulls like hell now(even more so than b4) and the whistle is insanely loud. I don't have pics up but its basically what it is...plumbers pipe, filter, clamps and your done. Enjoy!

Im sure it made a difference soundwise, but in hot weather u are going to lose power with JWT no matter what kind of modification u do to it.

You're car is not going to pull more from that. Maybe in your mind it does, but it's not physically doing so. You're just gunning it harder than you did before and the sound from the whistle is causing you to think it is pulling harder.

Maybe it does maybe it doesn't pull harder. But I can feel the slight pull at higher RPM, whatever the case it sure sounds better. I'm not to worried about hot weather. Where I'm from, we get maybe 3 weeks of hot hot weather and the rest is cold.

What I've noticed with CAIs on VQs is that they deliver very snappy low/midrange throttle response, but in the upper rpms they suffer. I know for a fact that my old VQ30 felt awesome on the street with a CAI, but when I took the car to strip, it was over .1 seconds and 1.5mph slower, even under optimal conditions.

And its not like this mod costed me much. 40 bucks total and 15 min of work. I basically jus brought the wasted cold air up to my jim wolf intake.
I don't lose any HP what so ever so I don't see what the issue is.

Basically what happens is turbulence builds up in the longer pipe and it impacts the higher rpm breathing ability of the intake manifold. The reason the induction noise is so much louder is because of the increased intake resonance and revibrations caused by the lengthened pipe. Throttle response is far snappier because a big column of air is built up on the front side of the throttle body and this will be percieved by the old butt dyno as more power. However, as the rpms increase, the turbulence builds and actually starts choking the motor. This ends up killing 60mph+ acceleration where more of the upper rpms are utilized during acceleration.

i'm not sure if i interpreted the OP wrong, but i don't think he converted his intake into a CAI. all he did was place a SEPARATE filter and tube where the CAI tubing is supposed to do and re-routed the air to the original JWT popcharger. so he's basically running 2 separate tubes and filters..the new one is not connected to the original intake..just dumping more air into the area so the JWT sucks up more air.

OP: correct me if i interpreted worng but that's what i got from your description
