weird question..please help! about pop charger

Ok, so I am either completely retarded and aint got ish on Jessica Simpson(i'll blame it on the fact that I haven't slept in a long time due to finals) or I have a valid, yet weird question.

I got my JWT Pop Charger a couple of days and am trying to install it. The ones that have the pop charger know that it comes with a heat shield and some rubber pieces that you are supposed to attach to it. Now, everything seems fine, but the biggest piece does not fit fit the heat shield. I provided some pics:

Here is a picture of what I've assembled as of now.

This is what the biggest rubber piece looks like and where it's cut.

and here's the only way it could go on the side of the heat shield

But the thing is, doesn't that defy the purpose of that rubber piece? Moreover, the DIY that I've been following shows different results. You see how in this picture the flaps are on the inside of the heat shield?

So I don't understand, am I doing something wrong? or did they cut it in all the wrong places?

If that's the case, what should I do? So far I've thought of two things:
1. ask to return that piece and get a replacement one if it is in fact cut in the wrong places.
2. If small holes do not make a huge difference, just cut it up the right way with scissors.

What should I do guys? I don't want it to be halfassed and also want to install it today, so gimme some input please.

see the back flaps...not the one at the top...they are facing the filter in your case. In my case they'd be touching the engine. That is what I meant. Yours is done like the last picture in my post. Should I just cut it up the right way and have more seams? would that affect anything major?

wow please bear with me but I think I am being misunderstood.

this is what I have

this is how I THINK it's supposed to be

i am talkin about the biggest piece. Mine is facing outward. the "proper" way i think is inward..TOWARDS the actual POP CHARGER..im talking bout the dissected BIGGEST piece.

I just unpackaged my pop charger yesterday and immediately started mounting the rubber pieces on the heat shield and found the same problem. It seems like the mfg cut the biggest piece from the wrong end. I'm thinking of flipping it around and make my own cuts. Honestly with the amount of heat thats going on in the engine bay, those rubber pieces are pathetic along with the heat shield.

I have the JWT heatshield + trim. The original trim on the rubber moulding came off and fell off because of engine heat. Second time around, I superglued the trim onto the rubber moulding so that it wouldnt come off again.

damn.. yah I decided to cut the pieces the right way. Doesn't seem like it'd make a big difference. Im gonna research some other heatshields anyway.
