GReddy SP2 for 6MT Cpe, anyone tried it yet?

I've been trolling around the threads and I see people trying the Borla, and there are mixed emotions about it. Well, is it really necessary to upgrade the whole exhaust system? I would figure that the stock one would already be pretty free flowing (due to the size of the stock pipe), except that the muffler and/or resonators may hinder the flow. Has anyone tried an axle-back system such as the GReddy SP2. It's actually a very nice looking piece, and considerably cheaper than purchasing a new exhaust ($400-$500 as opposed to $800-$2000). Just wondering anybody's opinion. Thanks!

I thought the GReddy SP2 was only for the Sedan... I guess I'm looking at the wrong online stores....

I have the SP2 system on my Coupe. I'm pretty happy with it, it's just an axle back system though but it's a lot more of a free flowing muffler. Your thought is definitely same with mine - to me the stock piping is more than efficient, where as the stock muffler is really restrictive. The SP2 is a great system for the money, I love it.

i thought the same, that the sp2 was only for the sedan, but i was wrong and very surprised when i happened on it at www.g35stuff.com and a couple of other sites. i saw the install pics, the videos, and i really like the way it looks and sounds. but, of course, the question is, what difference does it make in power? i'm not looking for much, as most exhausts out of the factory are already pretty well tuned (that is, for the amount of noise they make), with the restrictive units usually being either the muffler or pre-cats. i think it would make the biggest impact if you got this muffler w/the pre-cat units that either random or kinetix makes. anyone else?

Hey Jason, how long did it take you to install? Need any special tools? It looks like you're doing work in a car garage....how difficult would it be to do it in a normal household garage...?

Re: GReddy SP2 for 6MT Cpe, anyone tried it yet?

the restrictive point is not in the rear muffler itself.... it is in the stock-Y-pipe.... which makes the system not a true-dual exhaust...
Borla has an H-pipe that replaces the Y-pipe. Airflow is improved

The borla catback system is only $650-700, well worth it IMO

But if you are looking for Bang-for-the-buck... i would replace the cats FIRST.... get either the Kinetix cats ($400- they look stock) or the RT Cats ($550 i think- they are polished)

Both are guaranteed for at least + 5-8 HP/Torque throughout the rev range (RWHP - dyno)

The Borla system will net you +8 HP and +3 Torque peak (RWHP - dyno)

Install took only 30 minutes with two people, but me mostly taking pictures and wrenching only on the passenger side. You just have to drop the muffler off the three hangers, take it off, put the hangers on the new one and put it back onto the car and tighten a few nuts. I have a full write up but my website is down and should be back up sometime in the near future. Just need your normal sockets, 12 and 14 I believe, I have to double check.

As for horsepower, I felt somewhat of an increase but it could just be psychological. This is my third car I'm building, after a while you just get use to spending money and stop worrying about the gains

SilverG35C ,

in that video, does the car have a modified air filter too? The sound I'm hearing sounds a lot like a car with an intake and stock exhaust.

Re: GReddy SP2 for 6MT Cpe, anyone tried it yet?

I installed my Greddy SP2 last night and I love it. The sound is quite a bit deeper than the stock exhaust. The raspiness of my test pipes is somewhat reduced, but still definitely audible. The fit and finish is quite good... typical Greddy product. I didn't really notice any performance gain, but haven't hit the dyno yet to confirm. The exhaust doesn't resonate at all inside the cabin and isn't too much louder than stock (with the test pipes, it howls though!). I just ordered the Kinetix plenum/cat package today so the raspiness will be gone for good shortly.

BTW, you can get a SP2 from www.highrevonline.com for only $431 plus shipping (~$50). I got mine from a local shop that matched their price.

Yes, I have an Injen Cold Air as well. The intake definitely is significantly louder than the GReddy exhaust.

Re: GReddy SP2 for 6MT Cpe, anyone tried it yet?

Agreed. If I was going for an exhaust system for maximum power gains I would get a true dual system and high flow cats. That would mean Stillen or Borla. If not then I would do a Y-pipe and high flow cats. Those two pieces are actually the most restrictive parts of the stock system. Getting an axle back is mainly for looks and sound and won't do a whole lot performance wise.

I have the SP2 with Xerd test pipes, and we all know what's restictive and whats not. For those who don't have this system for you to say no improved gains how would you know if you have no dyno proof. Just a bunch of talk as usual. I attend the NICO meet on March the 20th and will do dyno. I'll keep you know it all's posted
