K&N Filter

Not sure if this is the proper place to put this, but anyway...

I have the Stillen intake for my 07 Sedan, and it comes with the K&N cone filters. How often do I need to clean them? and What is the proper way to clean them?

Thanks for the help guys...

i would clean them about every year. just don't over oil them. that's the #1 cause for a CEL for a contaminated MAF sensor.

What is the proper technique to clean them?? Just wipe them down with a towel, then re-oil them?? Where can I pick up some of the oil?

I just looked on the K&N website. Shoulda looked there 1st I guess. It says to hose off the filter, let it air dry, then re-oil it. It says they sell K&N filter cleaner-kits at most automotive stores (Auto Zone, Pep Boys...). It also says that w/ driving on normal roads, the filter should be good for over 50,000+ miles w/o being cleaned.

Every Year!!??

I have two and I alternate them when I change the oil, every 3,000 miles, always cleaning the one I removed so it's ready at the next change.

K&N Filters breathe great but only if they are CLEAN. They clog up real fast and defeat the purpose of having it at all.

If you have not experienced a decrease in mileage or engine performance, chances are your filter is fine and does not yet need cleaning. To be more specific, the filter does not require cleaning if you can still see the wire screen on the entire air filter regardless of how dirty it may appear. When the screen is no longer visible some place on the filter, it is time to clean it. When used in normal paved road, street or highway conditions, our replacement air filters that fit in the factory air box should require cleaning every 50,000 miles and our large conical filters on an intake system should require cleaning every 100,000 miles. When used in dusty or off-road environments, our filters will require cleaning more often. We recommend that you visually inspect your filter once every 25,000 miles to determine if the screen is still visible.
I've been told that it is not a good idea to clean them anymore than you need to.
