Do you mind telling me how long the 3" piece was? Reason I ask, is I can get one made up for free at work from aerospace grade aluminum as long as I have the dimensions.

WHAT?

I just don't understand, you buy a $30k+ vehicle, then want to put a $10 piece of plumbing/drain material on it just to save 20-30$ .

i don't mind at all. the tubing is 10-3/8" total length. if you can get the offsets in the tubing that would be even better. good luck.

and i took the advice of painting the tubing black...

saving 20-30 dollars nowadays is a great savings, if you dont see that then you need to get youre head checked. Go flame in the various, "should i put mid grade gas in my car" threads. he did it to benefit himself and the G35 community. Finally something CHEAP that is easy and a DIY can be made. everyone else in the thread seems to think its a great idea except you, so stop reading or posting if you dont like his idea, its as simple as that. Nothing wrong with making an intake on a budget its not like hes driving a show car

I wonder how this would compare to the real Z tube. My thoughts is they would probably be close to the same, but the PVC pipe is probably thicker than the Z tube thus making the home made intake a tad bit narrower. I guess there is no way to know for sure unless you were to dyno both for a good comparison.

not my cup of tea, but if it works for you then I applaud your efforts.

^yeah Ok You Save $20, But There Is A Reason People Don't Use Pvc Piping For A Reason, If It Was That Effective And Increased Airflow And Made The Car Run Smoother Everyone Would Have A Pvc Intake....there's Alot More That Goes Into A Intake Than Just "making It Straight".

FYI...i'm 47 yrs old. i work for a major coffee plant here in new orleans. my gross income is "more than enough" to purchase a authentic z-tube if i so desired, and then some.
what i have done is not to save on $$$, but to fabricate the tube, test it and kill time mostly.

some people like to tinker. now do you understand?

^ no i understand, if you want to creat a tube that is awesome, but buying PVC and cuting it is not fabricating a intake. You just installed a cut piece of plumbing material...

thank you.
and the tubing i used has a wall thickness of 1/16" and the I.D is the same as the 45* fitting on the throttle body, a very smooth transition. so i don't beleive there is a restriction. i haven't physically seen a authentic z-tube, but if it is made from the same material as the stocker, then the pvc is more than adequate

hence the "topic title"...home made z-tube.

question...what is a z-tube? clearly not a entire intake system. but just a "tube" redisigned without the air baffle chambers

its made from the same material...put a K&N filter on the end of that son bitch after your mass air flow sensor and you will have a home made "intake".
