home made z-tube (test)

i fabricated a z-tube from thin wall 3" PVC pipe, a 5/8" rubber groumet and 5/8" plastic 90* fitting from oreillys.
just wanted to see what the "hype" was with these "z-tubes" and to see if i wanted to spend $100 or so on an authentic z-tube.
it does sound better than stock and a little more responsive.

total cost $10 and 45 minutes(?) of my time

i would have include a pic, but size was too large(?)

I have haerd bad things about PVC and the heat issue. I don't comment though because personally I don't know.

Upload at www.imageshack.us and use their resize feature.

there really is not much to the Z tube. It's just a plastic tube and probably fabricating one is very easy, but I think it might look ghetto if you have a random PVC pipe sitting in your engine bay.
You can get a Z tube for $40 used.

resize the pic, I'm curious to it's appearance.

theres a pretty common misconseption that the z tube is an aftermarket intake, it's the stock intake tube from the 350z... if you're lookin at spendin 100 you should look around harder

i would search the z forums, any of those guys who switch intake systems will likely sell their stock tube for pretty cheap i got mine for 30 bucks and a pop charger for 60 so i got a pop charged z tube for lower than what ur lookin at for jus the tube

my comp won't allow me to open this link. if anyone is interested in seeing the pic, i can email it. i'm guessing the "kodak" program is creating a file too large (826KB).

That is definitely not a good idea. When PVC heats up with the temps under your hood, you will undoubtedly release toxic fumes into your car. Just go an order an intake pipe off eBay if you are going the cheap route.

Wow.......**** talkers are quickly making their way to talk crap to VQ base invention.

The guy wants to save his money by making his own stuff and to see if it's good as a Z-tube...and then you started giving sh!tty comment instead of encouraging him? Actually, it's really sad to see this kind of people like you in this "VQ Community".

To original poster...keep us posting man. I always love home made and new inventions.

hey man if it gets the job done!, looks good, just paint that son bitch black and you will be golden. and if the PVC does heat up and "release fumes" how are they getting into the car? i highly doubt the PVC gets THAT hot in order to release the fumes. my Ztube barely gets hot
