Re: My JWT heat shield, after...

used buffing compound ( only coarse and fine), 25K rpm die grinder, buffing arbors and lots of time. It could be better if i invest even more time into it but i dont feel like spending any more time or money just to make it shine. I think it looks pretty good for my first time polishing.

Here's to hoping that corrosion doesn't make you wish that you never did this mod. You know it's "gold" for a reason right?

Re: My JWT heat shield, after...

I assume the heat shield is made from aluminum which doesn't corrode. Just hit it up with some good polish every now and then.

HAHAHA!!! Alunimum doesn't corrode. Hahaha!!!!!

Then why do they have black anodize, brush irridite, and other plating processes for aluminum? Can you say corrosion??? This can be easily proven, so easily just do a search on Google.

Relax neff, you're just pissed because you don't have enough daddy points to go to south beach.

Aluminum corrodes, but it don't form FeOx, so it don't look red. Naked Al will look better than naked steel after a week.

They have plating cause it looks pretty.

2004 G35C 6MT Black. Yes Honey, I promise no mods. I love it just the way it is.

Re: My JWT heat shield, after...

Metals like steel are highly corrosive. Everything on the earth decomposes with time, so to make a general statement like you have can be considered correct - however you are 100% dead wrong.

Polished aluminum parts on a car are not going to corrode any faster than the car itself, unless of course you plan on submersing your vehicle in salt water on a daily basis.

Here's a test for you... leave your vehicle in a garage for several hundred years, and see what’s left. (I'm being facetious, but you get the point)

As far as Google goes, the only threads/sites that mentioned problems with corrosion of aluminum were those pertaining to boating.

Your comment ascertained notions that aluminum will rust away like unfinished steel. Not going to happen. It does take some work to keep the polished look up, but at the same time polished aluminum is great looking.

When is the last time you saw a rusty/corroded can of Coke lying around?

Re: My JWT heat shield, after...

Sorry guys, I had a terrible day. Must be PMS or something. For the record, I never said aluminum rusts like steel, I said it corrodes. That is true, but it only gets surface corrosion which doesn't look pretty, but is easily fixable with a little rubbing compound or a good sealant.

For anyone that I've offended, I apologize. For anyone who feels slighted, I owe them a beer and will cash in on it at your request. Yes DED that even includes you, bastard.
