Intake Question

Hey guys, new owner of a 2004 G35X here, I'm looking to start things off with an intake system. I'm more interested in performance than sound, although sound is definitely a plus. I did search around a bit before posting, and from what I found: Injen CAI will give me the most high end power with some low end loss, and a Stillen/Z-Tube will give me some high end gains without minimal low end loss. I'm probably gonna go with the Stillen/Z-Tube, and was wondering if you guys could point me to where the cheapest place I can get that combo is. I'm keeping an eye in the marketplace but it looks like they sell pretty fast. Any alternative intake suggestions are welcome too.

Lastly what the hell does the Stillen/Z-Tube combo do. Is the Z-Tube just a modified resonator from the 350Z (more sound)? I've installed intakes in the past but I've never heard of a Z-Tube. Thanks guys.

Z-tube is just the intake pipe from the 350z. It eliminates the sound baffles in the G35 intake track. Some say it adds a little power, but very minimal. It definitely adds noise.

^^^Answered the Z-tube question

As you've mentioned, the Marketplace is a great resource. If you can pick up a used Stillen intake there, I'd do it. If not, depending upon where you live, a shop might be able to get a decent deal on it, or you could always go through one of the many sponsors on the site here. I'm not sure exactly which sponsors would sell the intake/z-tube combo, but I'd be willing to bet a few do.

I can't remember what I paid, but it may have been $240 or something for the combination from a local shop. It may have been less... I remember telling them what I was quoted from a sponsor on here and they were willing to match it.

Best of luck!

Thanks so far guys, I'm from Indiana so there aren't really that many shops around here that sell aftermarket parts. Also what kind of differences are there between the stock Z-Tube from a 350Z and the Z-Tube Stillen makes?

Not enough difference to matter.
