Best BANG for your BUCK? Exhaust...

Hey guys im looking to get an exhaust system for my G but dont want to spend alot of money. Going with the Magnaflow because i like the look and price. And the sounds clips iv heard, sounds good. But looking to get a better Y-Pipe and maybe headers. Any suggestions? Saw a couple cheap brands Megan, and JVT, any good?

Dont get headers!
They have a very, very low yeild and an even lower bang for the buck.

The two best bang for the buck items are a plenum spacer and test pipes.

If you can use a plenum spacer, test pipes and also get that Y-pipe to hook up to your Magnaflow you will have the majority of NA gains that can be made and all at the best bang for the buck.

There are additional ways to make more NA power, but the cost increases rapidly.

The basic mods listed here will give you a good start.

Yes, they do sound good. They add a nice zing to the exhaust tone.

If running stock cats they don't do much, but if you have test pipes, it does make usefull gains.

but they are a PITA to install.. i helped my friend install his headers in his ford expedition and even with the room of that car it was really difficult, I'm not sure if you really want to get into the whole installation unless you want to spend the time to do it right

Previous Tests have shown....

If you install a good cat-back along with MD's spacer and test pipes adding
headers won't give you more than 3 RWHP. With that kinda HP reward it's not
worth the cost or pia to install, sound good or not. Being from Hawaii I guess
you're not dogged by smog police/restrictions. Magnaflow has a nice system,
and yes you'll need a quality y-pipe but don't go larger than 2.50". Check our
marketplace here on Driver, there's alway a few for sale....G/L.

IMO, too much cost for too little gain.. plus cross your fingers that nothing will go wrong for the headers since it will then be a pain in the butt..

If you were building a pure NA car for max HP, with test pipes, then yes.
But otherwise its still low yeild. Not much relative bang for the buck.

A tune will cost as much and provide better results.

spacer and test pipes/hfc are a good start. xo2 is a cheap true dual exhaust as well.

I can vouch that test pipes along with the MD spacer is a great start.

As far as the exhaust, like they say, you have to pay to play. Don't go out there getting a cheap unknown exhaust and expect something out of it. If you are on a tight budget, just go to our marketplace and pick up a quality used exhaust.

As far as which exhaust, it's all in your personal preference. The worse you can do is get an exhaust based on our preference

Just do some research on the exhaust. That will allow you to make your decision a bit wiser.

Why get a y-pipe? Get motordyne's XYZ pipe

The best bang for you buck exhaust would have to be Xo2. Just ordered mine yesterday...will have it on this weekend. I don't know what the weather is like where you are so you may want to coat the exhaust to protect it from rusting! I'll have to do that..stupid NE weather.
