installing coupe mid-pipe

Ok heres the story, i have a 2004 g35 sedan, and ive got a 2003 coupe midpipe i want to put on. ive visited every local place including Nissan, so im going to infiniti tomarrow.

What id like to know it first, which 2 gaskets will i need, i was told that im going to need a flang gasket for the end that connects to the y pipe and a ring gasket that connects to the rear muffler.

Next, when im geting these parts i should go by the midpipe sizing because if im not mistaken the seadn midpipe is 2.25 while the coupe is 2.5?

I bught the flange gasket at nissan and its like a few very thin sheets of metal together and the gasket is curved slightly. Is this one of the right peices? Also on the coupe mid i got, i geuss he forgot to take off the old ring gasket, so ive been using this to try and find but but have no luck, it looks sort of like an oversized keychain haha. Fianly can i just use 4 bolts from my local hardware store instead of paying lots of $$$ at infiniti?

Sorry i dont know my terms or anything, im just really new to all of this lol

Thanks for your help

here are some pics:

This is what i bought at the nissan dealer which goes between the y-pipe and mid-pipe right?

and this is what i found on the other end of the mid-pipe which connects to the muffler. Is this what im going to have to buy?

And is that all i need besides the new nuts and bolts?

can't see the pics, but the flange gasket you describe sounds correct. it's 3 or 4 thin sheets pressed together at either side. the crush (or ring) gasket is a circular piece of metal that is overlapped around its circumference to allow it to crush without binding. if you can't find a new crush gasket it won't kill you to re-use the old one, it's not the end of the world.

i re-used the nuts and bolts that were on the car. when i installed the HKS rear section i had to use "hardware store" stainless nuts & bolts. you'll be fine.

one more thing: soak the existing nuts & bolts with a lube or rust buster for a while before you remove them. mine were no problem but lots of guys have a hard time with ceased nuts/bolts.

What is the point of installing the coupe midpipe on the sedan? I keep reading people installing them or that have them installed but not sure why.

coupe mid-pipe has a much smaller resonator, so it just makes it sounds alot better, i used to listen to my music in the car, now i losten to my exhaust haha

you can get one used anywhere from 25-75?

but im just letting you know, make sure you have the right toold because all the rust is a PITA, took me almost 3 hours to install.

i believe so, if you wanted if you have an 03/04 sedan you can put i think just about any coupe mid-pipe on, orrrr a 05/06 SEDAN mid-pipe on. Both have a similar sound with the sedan mid pipe being alittle "deeper"

^ there are more coupe middys on the market than 05-06 sedan middys. i'd say spring for a coupe middy in good shape, any year.

in addition to improved exhaust note the coupe middy also shaves off about 30lbs, which is always a good thing...

No point in getting new gaskets. The OEM ones don't wear out.

I've had both the coupe midpipe and the 05/06 sedan midpipe. The sedan midpipe sounds far better. It's deeper and has a more uniform sound because the resonator was designed to work with the muffler design of the sedan. Even better is the sedan midpipe doesn't drone and it fits like OEM with no modification needed of the heat shields. As for finding one, yeah it's harder but worth it if you can find one.

Just installed the Coupe Midpipe.. I have to buy some gel like gasket maker, to seal the rear bolts / connection. I still have some rattle though, im pretty positive its from the drive shaft protection bar before the exhaust hanger.. Any ideas?

i actually put some RTF orange (the gasket seal/maker stuff) on the bar, and it lowered the amount of rattle for a while. but its back, im just kinda used to it now i guess. but yeah the rattle goes away after about 10 seconds.
