Re: The pop charger that adds 6.5 HP

I'm not antimod........just against lack of consumer education and letting manufacturers promise too much that they can't deliver in the real world.

Having higher peak HP is good, but if it only occurs at extreme rpms, it is not very useful except just before a shift and having it 2-3 times for 0.5 second doesn't help much in the quarter mile.

Not many mods help in the 1000-5,000 rpm range where 10 times more time is spent accelerating.

But they sound good and perception of power is important to some.

And they have the Dyno charts to prove it [sic]. My dyno [organ] is bigger than yours mentality.

Re: The pop charger that adds 6.5 HP

Thanks for all the reads guys... what it comes down to is that I wish for a great sounding ride.. not to say it isn't great sounding already, but if I can spend say 2-300 more (I can't afford the 1200 at this time ) then I'd go ahead and do it

And if it can speed up my car a bit... all the better I was looking at a STILLEN HI-FLOW AIRBOX and am curious of the gains w/ that... also perhaps just the Nismo CAI? I'm sure all of these do different things.. but what would be the best combo if I'm looking to spend no more than 300?

THANKS!

I don't know what year your car is but if you have a 2004.5 like me, you will need a special tool to remove and reinstall the MAF unit if you go with version 2 of the Nismo CAI. The AEM and Injen are essentially the same if you add the foam water bypass.

Also, it's a good fit but still rubs in a few innocuous places which bugs me.

If you're looking for bang for your buck, buy the Z tube, leave your stock intake, and move on....perhaps to the cats or the plenum.

Hey catafish,

Looks like the Z-tube is a necessity

I have a 2003... what are the cats and/or the plenums?

I decided against the NISMO (or any) CAI due to complexity with air filter cleaning. Its pretty easy to remove the Popcharger or Stillen hi-flow, but with the NISMO CAI you have to either remove the wheel or jack up the car to remove the filter. Too much trouble for my taste.

The cats are short for Catalytic Converter. It's that annoying thing that is good for the environment, but very restrictive. The top vendors are Crawford, Kinetix and R/T.

The plenum is another word for "Upper manifold collector" and it's the metal wedge shaped thing you see if you take off your plastic heat retaining ornament unit (ahem, I mean engine cover). There are currently two plenums on the market, the Kinetix and the Crawford. There is a ton of good info on them both, just do a search in the technical forum on the two and add the word plenum (Kinetix Crawford Plenum) and you'll have a good days reading.

Thanks mambo, but I'm no where near the ranks of those two, and barely above a newbie. Sometimes I have to dig into the wifes engineering books glossary just to understand Q45Tech, what a fantastic resource those two are.

I haven't seen InfinitiTech lpost ately, you still out there guy?

I agree, if not for the butt dyno, the deep growl will satisfy you alone! I swear my car now almost shudders at WOT because of the z-tube and Pop Charger. I think someone that doesn't know much about the G35C would think it has a V8 when they hear it.
