Pay $$ for Labor or DIY??

Next weekend I'll have the HKS muffler and an 06 midpipe to install. I've read a few threads on here, seems like the easiest option is to pay $50-100 for a shop to install and be done with it. On the other hand I'd really like to have the satisfaction of doing these mods myself and a few buds; I guess I'm looking at a few hours to do this and both if these items are bolt on, correct? What would be the most challenging part of this, what irregular tools if any would I need? Thanks for the input.

depends on what your budget is and if you like working on cars. Installing a new muffler and midpipe on a sedan isn't very complicated.

a few hours should do it...most of which will be you waiting for the WD40/PB Blaster to penetrate the bolts.

do it yourself, it's a very simple exhaust swap. grab some jack stands, sockets, and rust-buster and you're good-to-go. i did my swap in ~1.5 hrs, taking my time. the toughest part was releasing the hanger brackets. lube them up well and pull hard!

my advice to you is.......

make sure the car is secure on jackstands before you get under.......get a breakerbar is you can because those bolts will be a b!tch to get out even if you sprayed WD40 on it. And piece the exhaust completeyl together before putting on the hangers and bolting it up. Having a buddy lift it while you're aligning it is great help.

DO NOT try to bolt the mid pipe up to the Y pipe first and then putting the muffler onto the mid pipe, you need to do it all at once or else you will have a hard time aligning all the bolts and hangers while you're on the floor.

I guess one important aspect of DIY is buying some beer for your buds if they help you out. Especially if they "helped" you in some other installs. And if he has ramps and a metric set i mean isnt that a great guy. He deserves beer and womens.

Definitely DIY. Also make sure to use 6 point sockets not 12. Much less of a chance to round off a bolt head with a 6 point.

Ah noice, i was going to try that ying ling stuff at some point. now then, we dont have a breaker bar. my uncle doesnt have one either, brusche and i needed one that time dougs maxima got wrecked. maybe you could consider giving him a hand scooter since u r having him do all this work for you for free, and if he doesnt have a breaker bar trust me he is going to be working.

DIY all the way if you have a garage or the wather is good. It takes a few hours and PB for the old bolts is a must.
