You've always been able to buy the pop charger separately (without heat shield).

So yes, I’m pretty sure you can do the Stillen heat shield pop charger combo with out buying both full kits.

or put a WTB ad in the classifieds... a lot of guys are jumping on the OEM air box band wagon and might be selling their Stillen heat shield.

if ur really worried about intake temps, the samco Z-tube may help. the iso-thermal from MD does wonders too.

the Samco tube wont fit (without cutting) with the tbs he's using... I had one last week and had to send it back... in fact anything other than OEM z-tube is a pita with the tbs - I finally got a cf z-tube and having issues with it as well (need to find specific size couplers, I have some ideas).

Anyway - anyone looking for a Samco tube for decent price contact Adam at Z-1 (he's a vendor on 350z), I just sent back the only one he had. And anyone looking for CF z-tube, I’ll let you know were to get it if I cant get it to work (I ended up with the only one around, but might need to return it too).

I created a similar thread to this. I'll be modifying the OEM box by cutting it most likely and doing some fiberglassing.

Why anyone would want to swap the JWT filter into the Stillen is beyond me. Don't they both use oiled cotten media?

Anyway, I saw the pic of the R2c filter on the Stillen. From what I see, I don't see why the power duct still wouldn't fit. The two mounting holes are still there. I don't see where any cut part of the Stillen box would affect the mounting of the power duct?

I'm assuming because of looks? I personally choice the JWT because it's what I was recommended when I was a noob looking for a first mod. I kinda don't like Stillen either, but I do see why people would want to swap the heat shield out from the JWT setup. I'm surprised JWT hasn't done anything about it. They would sell like hotcakes if they did.

The only reason i can see to do the swap is because the JWT has an inverted cone on the top as opposed to the solid top on the stillen(K&N) which could potentially decrease the pressure drop across the filter and thus allow more airflow if that was a restriction.

Looks like he just took the filter media itself and put it onto his stillen setup. Why? And why would it be better than what stillen already has? Both use the same type of oiled cotton and both use the same velocity stack mounting base. If he had a stillen, he already has a filter for it. The JWT filter media might be a tad longer but that's it. Nothing worth swapping for. I'd consider using a longer filter IF that was the only way to get a superior filtering/flowing unit in there.

I suppose but IMHO, it comes down to filter area. If it's already large enough, I don't see how a slightly larger one would help. Plus if you make the filter case too long, it will start to get really close to other parts of in the engine bay.

Jeff, he's saying the Stillen cone is capped off at the nose - the JWT is concaved - theoretically/possibly better airflow.

I doubt there would be notable difference, but I need an alternate filter during cleaning - so one of these days I plan to get JWT to swap back and forth with...
