Stock exhaust unusually quiet

Hey guys, before you ask yes I did search.

I picked up an 03 coupe and you can barely hear the exhaust tone. So I did a search and only found this thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...fer-years.html

Only one member guessed that it could be clogged cats and no one else confirmed it. I did a search for clogged cats and couldn't find any information on this.

Anyone else have any ideas as to why the exhaust tone is so quiet compared to other stock g35s?

Whether it's starting up or driving away you can barely hear that note.

Get it on a lift so you can have it looked at ASAP. Check to see if it's throwing any codes as well.

Any idea on what I should look at exactly?

Also it sounds sort of loud inside of the car but I'm not sure if that's normal for G35's as I've never been in any other one..

Oh and the car is 6MT if that makes any difference.

The car is at 80K right now and I think it's an early built 03 so is it possible that the early ones are slightly different?

Anyone have any ideas?

2 options...dealer or muffler shop....what you want them to check to see is if its throwing any codes. They can hook up a code reader to the sensor to see if something's blocking the exhaust flow.

Are you the original owner? How can you be sure the guy before you didn't swap out some part before they sold you the car?

Make sure all the original parts are on there. In your case...stock cats, stock DE Y pipe, stock coupe midpipe, stock axelback exhaust....

Search the site for the pics of each part I mentioned. If you find a thread with a pic of the underbody it'll show you what your exhaust should look like from the cats back to the rear bumper

Headers, HFC, and a cat exhaust should do the trick
