You know the side-tube that connect to the air box

You know on the air box to the left side there's that really long piece of tubing(that's held on by 2 push-fasterners)

Do you think you'd gain anything by removing it? I can see more airflow, but would it be hot engine air? What about like opening up the openings more (i.e. on the front of it where those 2 little slits are, to take a saw and cut bigger openings?

No you wont gain anything, you would see some loss of power though. You are talking about one of the airducts that actually sucks in air to the engine.

Are you talking about the vacuum hose next to the throttle body? I think that goes to the valve cover. On other cars you can fallow it back and put a breather on the valve cover instead of a vacuum hose connected to the intake pipe.

That tubing acts like a return passage. this helps the movement of the air. As the intake sucks in, some air is blown back out through this hole on the valve cover. If you put a breather on it, it helps the airflow a little bit.

Re: You know the side-tube that connect to the air

What I want to know is what is the plastic box in the intake tract between the air filter and the throttle body? The sedan and coupe have it, the 350Z does not have it. What does it do? Can it be replaced with the 350Z intake duct? The box looks as if it would be an air flow restriction.

it's just a resonator. It's hallow and just bounces air and sound around in it. The whole stock intake system is full of little pockets like this.

Ova the only resonator in the intake is the lil piece dangling below. Im pretty sure hes talking about the inlet that is right in the center above the grill.

nope he's talking about this little box right before the Mas Air Sensor. It's flat on top and kind of a rectangle shape. Yuichi was trying to figure out what it was too. I looked inside and put my hand in there. It's just another piece to baffle sound. "resonator" can be anything that bounces sound around. A glass pack can be used for a resonator. An exhaust system or intake system can have multiple resonators.

That is the correct component. I do not know what will be the benefit of a resonator in the intake tract. I think it is more than a resonator. There is at last one hose attached to it. Also, if there is a baffle inside, will that not restrict air flow?

Why is it not on the 350Z?

Re: You know the side-tube that connect to the air

according to the service manual the flat front part infront is an inlet not a resonator(its purpose - just more air i guess). the little piece dangaling down is a resonator.

Re: You know the side-tube that connect to the air

my bad i forgot the hose was connected to it.

Marcel did you see where that hose leads to in the manual? If it leads to the valve cover then it's just a little section for the air to just recycle back into the intake.

If you are refering to the hose im thinking of then it goes to the LH rocker cover.
