Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

Regarding the Fujitsubo vs. JIC Y pipe, I guess there hasn't been any testing done on the two to see which one is "better". The 90 degree bends don't offend me too much, but the 45 degree bends of the JIC are more abrupt, if I may say so. I don't know which is better, from the standpoint of looking just at the bends, but a smoother 90 degree bend in concept is more appealing to me than an angular 45 deg. bend.

Just some more comments to stir the pot up and of course offer no solutions. :/

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

Are there any Y pipes out there that mate to the stock exhaust diameter to diameter? or are they all 70mm or whatever the aftermarket size is?

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

Their is one Y-pipe on the market now that is the same diameter as the oem piping at the collector. The NFC Y-pipe.

Their are 2 others that are either here or will be here shortly.

Kinetix $349
Unlimited Racing (no $$ yet)

All the other's use larger then oem collector diameters.

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

Is there a Nismo exhaust made for the coupe yet? or do we still have to buy the 350Z one and add extensions to make it fit?

I'd really like to know where I can buy a proper Nismo exhaust...

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

nismo weldina for the cpv35. its been out for a while but imo, is not worth the extra change. ~1700. has the lengthened midpipe and extended tips. japanparts.com and i-m-racing are vendors. i've never purchased anything from either vendor so ...

I think you mean the JIC Y-Pipe has four 135 degree bends not 45 degree bends. If the bends were anything shy of 90 degrees, two of them would be less than 180 degrees and the pipes would be heading back towards the cats.

135>90 all day long according to Newton/Bernoulli.

Caveat Does Not Apply in this case.

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

You got me there. What I meant to say is the bends at the top of the JIC Y pipe, according to the picture, warrant futher examination compared to, what appears to me by the pictures to be, a smoother bend in the Fujitsubo. Afterall, most exhausts have extreme bends to them to accomodate various things. They just need to be smooth. All I'm saying is I'd like to see the JIC bends up close before I decide they are a better design, that's all.

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

I think what you're saying is that the bends on the Fujitsubo Y-Pipe have a larger radius to them so the bend appears to look better. It is still more abrupt, causing more flow restriction.

Stop by my house tonight and you can kiss the bends of the JIC Y-pipe if you so choose. Just let me leave the room before you get started. They bends are 100% beautiful (on the inside and outside). If they weren't, I'd make sure to let you know and would not endorse the product (albeit my endorsement is based solely on appearance at this point).

I don't think I'll take you up on the interlude with the Y pipe. I've heard about you Orlando people and you're crazy ways. .

Am I mistaken in that the bends from the top of the Y pipe are more angular than rounded. Could just be the picture.

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

Actually, I held a protractor up to the screen and I must "adjust" my 135 degree statement before. The JIC Y-Pipe has two 150 degree bends to it. It looks like the pipe bends faster because the JIC has a smaller radius (R1) in the sketch than the Fujitsubo.

The 2 good things are,

(1) 150 > 135 > 90 thus the bigger the angle, the better the flow
(2) the bends are very smooth.

Re: NISMO vs. FUJITSUBO

For Catafish, have you looked into the HKS Legamax Exhaust? It has oval tips...looks real clean. A lot of people who don't know about our cars think I have a stock exhaust because it blends in nicely...like oval tips on a Mercedes. Sounds nice too, very exotic and Italian-like after break-in. I HAD the Fujitusbo, but sold it because the cans were too big for my taste...and I'm 22. To me, the sound of the Fuji and HKS are different, the HKS isn't as loud, but purrs beautifully.
