350z Hr y pipe Vs G37 Hr y pipe

What is the difference between them exactly? My dealership is willing to part with an extra G37 Hr y pipe they have laying around for about 100 dollars? Good deal or no. I know somewhere I read there is a difference but what exactly is the difference.

If you want to learn everything there is to know and then some about this question, I double dare you to read all 35 pages in this thread.

https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-...-2003-g35.html

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it I have. You didn't let us know what car you are rollin' in, but for my 05 sedan, what I can tell you is either of these options are MUCH better than my stock pipe. Better throttle response and deeper growl are the 2 biggest benefits that are noticeable almost right away.

I bought 3 y-pipes from the local Infiniti dealer and paid $60 total!!! So I have to say $100 is expensive to me, but what you were quoted seems pretty normal or even a little lower than a lot of these pipes are selling for on here. Of the three I bought 2 were alike and one was different. The one I kept was off of an 07 G I believe, but who really knows. You can search through the last 3rd of the thread to find my pics and discussions.

Yes I have an 05 sedan as well so your saying with the 05 sedan its not worth to get this pipe because you didnt notice any difference? Now when you said you Better response and deeper growl is that something YOU noticed or something your SUPPOSED to notice if you have an older model G?

That's not what I'm saying at all. Maybe I wasn't clear, but the swap was well worth it. It's an inexpensive mod, easy to install (30 min), and the improvements are noticeable. Now, the changes are subtle, but they are there. I don't believe the new pipe gave me more power per se, but shifts are crisper especialy in MM. Also, it changes the exhaust note a little, but not as much as HFC's or a new muffler would.

These pipes wouldn't be in such high demand if they didn't make a difference.

Here is how I see it. If its so easy to get a G37 Hr y pipe from your local dealership then cheaper what people are selling their 350z pipes for why doesnt everyone just go to their local dealer and pick up the G37 HR y pipe instead of searching around for a 350z one. I think i read in those 35 pages that there was a difference Im just not sure what it was.

I just want a flat out answer should I wait for a 350z hr y pipe or get the G37 one this week for cheap from my dealership. If i get the G37 is it worth it or should I have waited for a 350z y pipe

You guys with hookups are soo lucky! Either way, if you don't want to do an aftermarket exhaust then I say the HR Y pipe is for you. Add some HFCs or test pipes and let the good times roll

Remember that there are numerous verisons of the "HR" y-pipe floating around and I specifically remember someone posting that the G37 y-pipe has smaller down tubes than the 350Z HR Y-pipe. I would steer clear of the G37 y-pipe unless you can measure the down tube inlets first. They should be nearly 2" ID. The G37 downtubes only had a ~1.7" ID.

To add more confusion, I've recently learned that the 1st gen FX35 (VQ35DE) has the same style 350Z HR y-pipe, minus the hockey puck vibration dampers.

Dave, for all we know, the FX could have its own variations to this Y pipe saga...its only a matter of time before we get it all figured out.

Now would be a great time for an Infiniti parts department guy from the dealer to chime in with his .02

i still find it hard to believe that a g37 y pipe will have smaller tubes than a z-hr ypipe. i would bet that they either got an fx35 or an m35x y pipe, sold as a g37.

ill try and remember to measure my inlets this week when i put my exhaust on. my hr ypipe is off either a g35 hr or a g37

There's an Infiniti parts guy selling the FX y-pipes on my350z.com. That's how I found out about it. The FX y-pipe looks exactly like the my HR 350Z y-pipe minus the dampers.

I believe it. The reason Nissan probably went with the setup is to improve volumetric efficency of that high revving motor and it probably has something to do with the VVEL setup. I doubt it's a restriction to those motors. Piping size is largely dependant on the configuriation and needs of the motors. In many cases, larger piping is not benefical. Make sure to measure the inlets of whatever y-pipe you get because you don't want to be putting smaller ID pipes on there. What works on the VQ37HR may not necessarily be right for the VQ35DE.

I wouldn't do it unless you can measure the inner diameter of the pipes first. The downtubes should be close to 2" ID and the exiting pipe should be around 2.45".
