Re: Kinetix cats.

I don't think that you can get one from Crawford unless you turn in your stock plenum immediately to have it modified. I definitely want to keep my stock plenum in case I ever need to return the car to totally stock for resale.

Also in the interest of equal time I got some responses from Kinetix regarding their plenum and cats:

Regarding their cats I asked if their fitment issues had been resolved. Response was-

"Yes, we completey constructed new jigs for the cats from scratch. We really went for overkill, because we made these jigs out of 1/2" steel and also now do 100% of the welding on the jig so there is no chance of warpage."

I also asked about their latest version plenum-

"Nope, so far it is running strong.

We have about 110 V4's circulating out there and havent had any problems yet."

Nope

I called Doug at Crawford this morning, and as we talked he mentioned your post, and the fact that he was answering it. I was responding to that.

You can get one from Crawford without turning in your core, but Doug will charge you a $200.00 core charge. But, IMO, there really is no reason for keeping the stock unit.

Re: Kinetix cats.

I thought that I had heard from someone over at Strictly Z that the plenums were on indefinite backorder unless you were to send them in your core immediately.

Re: Kinetix cats.

Just wondering about the plenum.......

Couldn't somebody just make a gasket spacer for the plenum on our cars? Why go through all the trouble to cut apart the stock plenum and weld some funky looking box on it? I suppose that's better than having a piece of plastic under the hood and then having to check it every other day just to make sure it didn't crack. I could never live with that paranoia.

Re: Kinetix cats.

So does Crawford have a sales section to their website? Or do you have to order over the phone? I couldn't find a link to buy anything off of the website.

Re: Kinetix cats.

Also, the Crawford site says that the cats are ** OFF-ROAD USE ONLY **. Is that just a CYA statement from Crawford, or will the cats not pass emission, or worse get me a ticket from a cop who is being way too nosey?

Kintex claims that their cats are smog legal, though they don't have a CARB certification.

Re: Kinetix cats.

Order from Crawford over the phone, there is a phone number listed at the web site. Doug Stewart is a great guy to talk too. The "off road" thing is a CYA. Technically, it's against the law to replace any cat on any car with less than 50K miles on it if it's not damaged. If it is damaged, you must use the original.

A crawford or Kinetix will pass the sniffer in California, so will pass anywhere. It wont set off the CEL, so it wont set off the electronics at a smog inspection either. Also, if an inspector looks under the car, he'll see a cat, so all should be well.
