Test pipes?

What are the point of these? Do they benefit? If so, how and who makes the most reputable ones?

better exhaust flow and less restriction. Most people see some gain gains from test pipes. Fast Intentions, Strup, Helix, Megan, Turbo xs etc...

they replace your catalytic converter and free up your exhaust, check with your local law because they are mostly not street legal.

are test pipes bolt on or welding is required?

Also I head that they smell of gas at idle ONLY and the smell goes away at accelaration is this true?

They are bolt ons..Yes there is the smell of gas at idle because the smell catches up to you when you stop.

You'll get the common rasp with Test pipes.
Since you and I are in the GTA, a HFC would be a better choice to avoid the green police pulling your car off the road and giving you a hefty ticket.
HFC's also provide less rasp then test pipes.

Test pipes = more power, but you get gas smell, chance of ticket/car pulled off the road, louder exhaust with more rasp
HFC = slightly less power, no gas smell, and no chance of ticket/car pulled off the road, exhaust will also be louder

Headers ---> Resonated Test pipes w/CEL fix ---> Motordyne XYZ pipes with Resonator ---> Motordyne VQ exhaust = Max N/A power with low close to stock tone but a bit louder. Test pipes will give a sent of exhaust in the cabin but once you go TPs you'll never go back lol.

VQ comes in @ 6:30.
