I had a customer contact me about making one for his G35. My price quote was many times of what this guy was planing on selling his, I don't know how he can make a quality part for so cheap.

Is that what CF looks like when it's not polished? It should have at least 2 bolts in the middle like my crawford plenum does for keeping its structure and sealing integrity I would say. It definitely looks nice, and I don't see why it would need any gains if he just made it w/o the spacer b/c it's such a nice looking piece. How is that one CF/metal plenum constructed (I forget the brand) but it's an expensive one and I think made for FI purposes mostly?

He said the underside is because it's wet laid, but still looks like chop strand to me . I wouldn't try it mainly because it does have support in the middle. Even the crawford has noticeable flex and it's alum. Unless the thing is done in a vac infusion I would touch it with a stick, especially if your FI.

The inside should be smooth for airflow, and I also question the lack of mid support bolts to prevent flex on the plenum in this thread.

^^^ smooth vs rough has been a debate since the beginning of people polishing or smoothing the inside of plenum... some people insist that dimpled, or otherwise rough surface creates a boundary layer and is advantageous for air flow... others claim smooth surface is better.

I tend to favor nothing more than taking down casting flash and smoothing critical flow points (this is on an aluminum cast piece of course)... but I have seen/read several tests and theories that support the non-smooth theory. Myth Busters happened to do something similar recently (look up dimpled car, or golf ball car). And for the yahoos that think that every time I give an example, its the only example I have - no stupid, its one of many examples, I'm just not going to post a half dozen of them (that's not directed at you Johnny).

I believe that there are benefits to both the polished and non-polished options. That said, I believe there are spots where it is good to be polished and spots where you might want to have some rougher areas.

That said, the construction of the carbon fiber plenum looks like it is fiberglass inside, not full carbon fiber.

looks very similar to the CF half engine cover I have...

so you think it is full carbon fiber then? its like 240 GBP thats like $415 USD. Seems pretty expensive but I guess if its full CF thats probably a pretty decent deal. Of course, then you have shipping....

don't know I'm far from a composite expert... I'm just saying the underside of my cover that mynismo/Performance Nissan, Stillen and lots of others sell as CF, looks very similar to the underside of his plenum.

for what ever that's worth ~
