Daily Driver Exhaust Questions
Borla true dual with the front muffler replaced with a Magnaflow resonated X pipe.Drone down 50% from before and I got most/all of my lowend back while keeping the high rpm gains.
Probably alot quieter than both stillens although I've not heard any personally. I'm old too and this setup is probably at the limit of my tolerance. But I've always had quiet exhausts before.
If I added high flow cats, I'm not sure if I'd be able to tolerate the noise increases. But I'm still curious as to what it would sound like.

I just recently did test pipes, nismo y-pipe, coupe middy, and HKS muffler. I really love how powerful it sounds.. and especially the gains all around.. but g'dammit I wanna kill myself due to the drone sometimes. Drone + rasp = death.
Do you have a video clip? Im curious to know what the test pipes sound like paired with the middy and hks
I don't have a good video clip yet.. just a few in-car pulls. (video quality sucks but I was going more for sound). I need people to help me get clips from outside the car lol
Hey Dave, where di you get your HR y-pipe? I might consider going this route if I can't stand the drone any longer. For now, I will just have to drive spiritedly to avoide the drones lol.
I'll agree, drone is very subjective. There is good drone and bad drone. Good drone sounds pleasing to the ears, doesn't resonate your brain or passengers, isn't overbearing (ie needs sounds insulation, need to turn up the radio), and it doesn't vibrate your butt nor can be "felt". My prior Borla TD had bad drone and it was annoying as hell. The drone range was 1800 to 2400rpms, depending on load. That exhaust lasted all of 2 weeks on my car before I sold it.
My current setup is the HR y-pipe, 05/06 sedan midpipe, and stock muffler. I've had the coupe midpipe and the sound as just off and it had some bad drone (not terribly significant). I chalk it up to the fact that the coupe midpipe resonator is designed to compliment the crossflow muffler of the coupe. The sedan's muffler is a more straight-thru design, hense the need to a larger midpipe resonator. My setup current is perfect. Maybe it does have a little drone, but it sounds so pleasing to the ears. Much like how a healthly V8 sounds pleasing to the ears. It has velvety deepness that neither the coupe midpipe or Borla TD could match. It doesn't sound bad at any rpm much like my old Z28 with a Flowmaster exhaust. The sound is always there, but NEVER overbearing. I'm 35 and highly critical of exhaust mods and I am not willing to compromise daily driveability and annoying volume/drone for a few HP. My setup is absolutely perfect for me. I'm not 16 anymore and my tastes have become more refined.

Look through the marketplace, craigslist, junkyard, dealerships.
There are people who sell their entire exhausts as well, ask them if they are willing to part out

^I'll second that with the note that I think HKS is quieter all around (though I've only heard HKS from the inside once).
MD is noticeable - I've had lots of people that don't know about cars compliment mine but not one complaint about noise. Just depends what you need in a daily driver.
