Muffler delete guys

Need some help here. Ive been trying to find out a full pic of the 1st gen G35 coupe exhaust, as in all the way from the headers. Also in order to delete the muffler, can it be just unbolted or does it need to be cutoff? Also what are you guys doing about the tips. I did see a few threads with people gettin custom pipes put in but was wondering do you really need the pipes?
As for the rest of the guys who think this is a hack job, STFU and leave, thank you =)

I unbolted the muffler, had them cut off the tips from the muffler, then had them make a "Y-pipe w/ stock tips"

I made a set to reduce weight for autocrossing. I had them retain the original connection flange and both stock tips from the OEM muffler. The original connection flange will allow you to changeout from the muffler delete to OEM easily - I can do it in 15 min without a lift. Also when you look at it you can not tell it was modified. I am not going to autocross so I would consider selling my set. The are not as nicely made as Mix's. IMO my set is a little ineffient flow wise compared to Mix's, but I still think they are better than stock. I will post a pic in a few days - away on business.

For daily use they are really loud inside and out. No real performance gains - just weight savings. They sound pretty good for a muffler delete. If you go this route I would recommend to use some sort of cats, the stock resonators at least, and make sure the exhaust gasket is replaced ($3 for an auto parts store).

That's what I did with my sedan.

*edit, nevermind. On my sedan I ran a new pipe, i see you cut the section. Looks factory like that, looks good.

Not really. All you pay for is the piping. The hard part is getting a pipe that bolts up directly to the headers. Maybe getting some unresonated test pipes and then cutting of the tip and welding a pipe directly from it all the way to the back.

OP, this isn't a good idea. It's going to be too loud, I don't know if you've heard just headers on a VQ, but at idle its super loud.

To keep costs down and to make it easier and less loud, but still loud, I would leave the OEM cats on on and start cutting the y pipe before the flex joints and run new piping.

why not just ebay some generic exhaust? it'll be cheaper because there's no custom work involved, it'll sound better, perform better, and it'll only weigh marginally more.

ebay example link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AXELB...item1c11686166

This example is only $130.

hey nice post man! im also lookin at doin something like this. i went to my local muffler shop today called Midas. The guy checked out my car and all, and he goes to remove the muffler, and add str8 pipes, and get a different muffler tip will be like $300 - $350! Im like u gotta be effin kidding me. But I was tellin him i want to keep my muffler and tips on the side if i ever want to put it back on, so I guess thats why it was expensive! He was tellin me I should look into gettiing just a muffler, he suggested borla and what not. He said if i can bring him a direct fit muffler, where he wont have to do extra work, he'll charge me like $80 to $100 to do it.

Those two sentences totally contradict themselves. Best of luck! Now I'm gonna STFU.
