Re: K&N filter?

Well socalmmr,

Even the K&N guys said what i already knew, MOST applications are only good for 2-3hp for the drop in filter.

I am quite surprised at the gain for the filter on the G, that is not a common experience had by other cars. I run engines on the dyno quite often and most of the time the K&N and paper filters are within 1-2hp of eachother.

P.S. Can you post some Dyno sheets that fit on the page.

Re: K&N filter?

Yes.

The non-cartridge version (33-2259) is a straight drop-in filter for the air box.

The cartridge version (33-2031-2) is a filter in a holder that drops in the air box.

There are two kinds listed for the G35 'cause apparently they are two different designs. I don't know which my G has cause I haven't popped it open. Maybe the difference between the 2003 and the 2003.5?

Look before you buy.

Info from K&N technical support.

G35 Coupe w/ K&N CAI
Re: K&N filter?

Yes, you are absolutely correct, that even K&N will tell you that the average gain for a drop in can be as low a 1HP & is about 2 maybe 3 at most. However, that was not the case with the Coupe & the dyno runs we did on stock vs the drop in were not intended originally. I had a K&N in another Infiniti I had before I bought my Coupe, & that filter was the same size, so I kept it & put it in my Coupe. When I took my car down to K&N I forgot I had it in there, also the CAI group is a completely different group than the OEM fit group, so normally they would not have tested that way (with the drop in OEM fit), but it got them curious since it was already installed, so it gave them the opportunity to do those runs & yes, even they were a little shocked at the #'s they got for the OEM fit. This may be a non technical statement, but, for anyone who owns a Coupe you have to admit these little rockets WANT to go, & in this case we all had agreed that these cars really want to breathe, & if you give them a chance to do so, they will.

As for the scans, I don't know why they turned out that way, the images were not that large in the original file & that was several months ago now, I no longer have the files & really do not want to go back & re-scan the print outs & re-post.

They are planning on using my Coupe again for a final fit test for the CAI system shortly, if my time permits & I can participate again, then if they do Dyno runs again with the CAI, & let me have those print outs as well, I will scan & post those....
