Thumbs down Stillen HFC + Stillen Catback Exhaust = ahhhhhh!

Eh folks. 06 AT Coupe.

(EDIT: I encourage those of you with rasp problems with Stillens to continue to read to the end... perhaps I have the solution to your issue in the last post. I think I've nailed it.)

Well, sad to say that against my better judgment (Was leaning towards MD) I was pursuaded to install the Stillen HFC and dual exhaust. As a result, I've found that I've had a pretty raspy tone and suffice to say that was absolutely NOT the objective. Lots of snot- a pretty noticeable increase in torque and horsepower with the addition of a COBB tuner and some dyno time... but NOT happy with the sound at all.

I'm relatively new to the options available to cut the rasp out- so what I'm wondering is if there are resonators that you can install into the Stillen system somewhere (like from MD) that will eliminate it? I know the MD system is more modular (which I liked in the beginning) and I'm not sure Stillen is quite as flexible.

Also, have other people with the same combination had the same problem- or do I perhaps have a leak somewhere that I should start looking for?

Thanks

There's no one way to cut all the rasp out. The Z crowd used Magnaflow resonated X pipes to cut rasp from their HKS/replica dual exhaust and HFCs/Test pipes

Have you considered going back to stock cats? I don't think you'd lose much power and might help alleviate the rasp.

Also check your PM.

Can you record a video of what the Stillen set up sounds like?

I've seen a few Stillen videos on YouTube and it didn't sound raspy at all.

I'm willing to wager it's the HFCs strumming on the rice... it's not horrible but it's there. I'll see if I can get the whole youtube thing sorted out.

What other breather mods do you have?

Did you order everything new from Stillen?

I was also looking into the same exhaust and HFC.

I have the stillen intake / z tube, an MD 5/16ths isothermal spacer and then the above mentioned. The rasp isn't horrible... but it's bad enough that I'm looking into solutions.

I would swap out the Stillen HFCs for Fast Intentions or Berk HFCs to help cut back on the rasp.

I was just reading about that. Saw some good things about Kinetix too... I'm also looking REALLY hard at these new ART Pipes from MD... Though the 560 price tag is daunting.

I got a line on a set of Ultimate Racing High Flows Cats- apparently ceramic core for a 350z... Any idea about those?

Ok you gotta get the Magna Flow Dual in Dual out muffler thats listed in the previous post , then cut out the lame Stillen X pipe , then cut out the lame *** Stillen resonators (swap with straight pipe) . the rasp will be gone ! At this point you could run RESONATED test pipes.
Also check this link for sebring mufflers , Sebring makes the Fast Intentions exhaust.

Dude your done
1.Magna flow
2.cut xpipe
3.replace Stillen X withh Manga flow
4. Kill Stillen resonators
5. replace with straight pipe 18"
6. Kill Stillen Mufflers
7. replace with Sebring Mufflers
8. Get the MD Art pipes or at least Fast Intentions RESONATED test pipes.
9. DONE

These are the mufflers for the Sedan

read ur post on the rasp problems with the Stillen exhaust, I have 2006 sedan with stillen headers ,Kinetix HFC's ,stillen gen 2 . the stillen muffler fell apart , so i threw on the magna flow dual in ,dual out muffler , like yours , the sound is a little deeper than the stillen , but the rasp ...... o h my god ... it sucks , so ur saying 2 scrap the stillen resonators , but wat do i replace them with??
i replaced the stillen x pipe and resonaters with one magnaflow dual in dual out muffler

I lost pretty much all rasp with this mod....with topspeed headers [ceramic coated], berk metallic HFCs, 1/2 motordyne spacer, and custom intake.

Thanks butkiss... Sounds like you had the same experience with Stillen exhaust that I'm expecting to have. Thanks for the feedback!
