Exhaust all of sudden has DEEPER tone . . .

Well, not sure what happened, but ever since I took my car on a trip to the Englishtown NHRA SuperNationals last weekend, my exhaust tone has got a much deeper growl to it.

Question is why?

I briefly checked for exhaust leaks, but couldn't really find anything. Only other thing i can think of is i blew one of my hi-flo cats out.

Anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions.

I love the new sound, but i'm sure i'm not getting it for free . . .

Dan

probably from the cats. Are you getting any rasp from it? The only thing in the exhuast that could change is the cats or a leak...but a leak will rattle not make it deeper in tone.

No rasp. Just a nicer deeper tone. Air/Fuel is okay, nothing runs differently as far as I know.

Be careful for Cats though. They can sneak up and cause issues. Friend had a bad cat and it was causing knock.

how many miles and what type of HFC's are they?

I just installed Berk's and a MD xyz about 3 weeks ago and noticed that the exhaust note has a really deep growl in the last few days - perfect but I didn't think there was any problem. I updated to an Osiris tune this last weekend as well and thought that had contributed to the change in exhaust note - not loud but deep. I do get a small bit of rasp at startup but it seems that when the exhaust (cats?) heat up, about 2 -3 minutes, it goes away.

englishtown? were you at the race where Neal Parker was killed?
hate to see those things happen when so much preparation and safety considerations are involved these days.

I've noticed my exhaust gets quite a bit deeper and louder the warmer and more humid it is outside.

You should post a video of your sound. I am curious to hear it too.

I have the Fast Intention HFCs.

Yeah, i was at the race with my 5 year old son when Neal Parker was killed. Its purely speculation at this time, but from what i'm hearing and what I saw it may be that he had a heart attack during the run. He hit the end at full throttle, never hit the brakes, and never deployed the chute. Of course, thats just speculation and we'll have to wait until the NHRA and NJSP do their full investigation before any facts are known for sure.

Yeah, it is very sad to see something like that happen - such a tragedy.

Heres a photo of Neil's car (Red Excavator) just at the start of his tragic run.

Interestingly enough, the sound mysteriously disappeared . . .

Weird . . . it wasn't a subtle change - it was extremely obvious.

Also, had an exhaust leak check done, and everything look fine.

Stop tripping, your exhaust has finally broken in. The sound is normal, enjoy.
