Intake Manifold

I hear many people talking about the intake tube but i have not heard anything about anybody polishing the inside of thier intake manifold or any aftermarket intake manifolds. That is where most of the power lies, not in the tube that leads up to it.

Most of your power to be gained on the intake is the airflow in the manifold and ports.

Re: Intake Manifold

Yes, but you're talking about moving outside the realm of bolt-on parts, aren't you?

Re: Intake Manifold

Not neccecarily, if there is an aftermarket intake manifold it would be a direct bolt on.

Yes, polishing the intake would require some effort but if there is an aftermarket one, that would already be taken care of.

Re: Intake Manifold

why polish it when you can spray it with crisco.

Re: Intake Manifold

On that line of logic, if you're looking for a louder exhaust sound, why spend the money on a Nismo or HKS when you can just pop a couple of holes in the muffler?

Re: Intake Manifold

I just think it is weird that very few ever venture into the realm of anything between the back of the intake tube or infront of the catalytic converters.

Everyone is very concered about HP increases of 5-10 hp when in all actuality 10hp increases are barely noticable.

Re: Intake Manifold

It is interesting that in the era of muscle cars, owners would practically tear down and rebuild the whole engine, and these days everyone gets excited over a CAI and a new muffler.

I'll be leaving my G35 stock until the aftermarket scene for it matures a bit. Plus, I'm not ready to do anything that would kick me out of the SCCA Solo2 Stock class.

Re: Intake Manifold

Actually, there are many factors related to overall performance gains. Weight being a big one, air restriction, HP, Torque, etc. Blah, blah, blah!!! What I am saying is that one car a 5-10 HP gain can show good results, where as in another totally seperate car, no gains or very minimal gains. I got an extra 50 HP to the wheels from just adding new I/H/E mods. And this was Dyno proven.

Re: Intake Manifold

I agree, however, you are talking about brand new $35k+ cars here. You jack with anything close to the engine and there goes your warranty. In the old days, parts were cheap, especially for domestics and cars were much simpler.
I would like nothing more than to tear down my intake and have it extrude honed, etc. But, right now, it's just not gonna happen.
