indepth peek at the mjmotorsports/dm2 intake manifold

Well several people have asked so i will add pics and narrate as i go. Hopefully this will help everyone if they decide to try and go this route. Talk soon guys

new top that was to be dsskyline before he backed out

ernests top

lil mike/marvins top

erics top (only one running modified rev up collector)

the original top that started it all

milled top of non rev up lower collector

milling a runner

Actually removing the top here. Milling was the most preventative way of reducing warp

Now for the down low on porting. By stuffing the ports you can get the layout dye to make your removal of bulk material marks

In pics 1 and 2 I am spraying the dye from the bottom

in pics 3 and 4 notice the vague dye marks

in pics 5,6 and 7 you can see i chased the vague dye imprint with a sharpie to maximize idetification for max removal

blue layout dye used

rough cut removal tool

in pics 10,11 and 12 the removal of bulk

finished with the final of a 400 paddle wheel

Thanks for checking out guys
Mike

Dyno is the worst enemy i will be dealing with on this thread, however i did dyno my car to 280hp yet settled on a 278 hp tune due to a better fuel curve. Mods on the car are as follows

Crawford headers
strup test pipes
hks hi p
utec
unorthodox pulley
255 walbro
idler pulley delete

Many people wanted a before and after, same day, same temp same everything. Problem is the dyno time would be 5 hrs. pre dyno, then install, consult bump, utech install then tune. Its all money and i actually ran this set up on my car with no u tec for about 6 months. After everything was said and done the car ran a 13.65 at 105ish and the next pass i snapped an axle. track temp that day was around 108 degrees in fl

you should do a stock car with and without it......thatd give the best ideas IMO. but it looks legit to me.

I know bro. There have been alot of offers. But it gets complicated. Ive lost several sets due to numerous dyno promises. But on another note to get the full potential out of the mass amount of volume it has, you need to get some kind of program. Normal idle on the vq35 is 750rpm after install of whole set up idle drops to 450rpm. Its not just a bolt and go deal.

looks great, I was happy making a little more than the Mrev2 with my mild porting / polishing. would love to see what this does. I know plenum porting is tricky. It's hard to keep high velocity and high flow rate.

you're doing great work. everything looks great and very professional. the porting especially.

i read the whole thread but, were you saying that just the port work caused the idle to drop to 450rpms or did i miss something? i've had ported heads and manifolds before (granted not on a g) but, it never effected the idle from what i can remember. the only time i remember having a rough idle was after cam install but, i got an safc and got it tune to where you couldn't even feel the car running at idle.

do you plan on mass producing these or just doing it for you and friends? jw. anyway, keep up the good work.

I have this intake the rpms drop when the top is added. I think because there is so much volume with the top.

I have mine without the top using a stock top and 1/2 spacer.

The car pulled hard in the upper rpms I plan on going back to the dyno with the big top after I add a few things.

Here are some pics of the modded lower collector next to my stock one and a before and after dyno. The only thing changed was lower plenum, collector and changing from a 5/16 to 1/2 spacer.

I ran my PB of 13.147 with the 250hp tune.
