exhaust help

i am going to be trying out some different exhaust setups in the near future to try and find the "perfect" sound for ME. but i have a question first.

is there a such thing as mounting the muffler TOO close to the engine? for example mounting the muffler RIGHT after the y-pipe. i dont know if it will create back pressure to soon or if it will be a bad thing.

Just my .02 but an exhaust is so far away to lessen the sound in the car and also take heat away from the undercarriage to keep the inside of the car cooler. More of an overall making the car more appealing to the normal driver and not the sports enthusiast.

I know what you mean or just open dump it. Summit offers weld in or bolt in dumps that are controlled electronically or manually.

i actually already have an electric cutout sitting in the garage. my main concern with the hole thing though is that i will mess something up by having the muffler so close.

I believe it may create more back pressure if I am correct....

First off, what y-pipe are you using? What other plans do you have for an exhaust? Single, dual, cut-out, cut-out location, etc.

There's nothing wrong with mounting the muffler after the y-pipe. A lot of aftermarket exhausts actually mount pre-mufflers or resonators around that area.

Look at Motordyne's exhaust systems. It has a muffler right after the Y-Pipe.
