Exhaust advice - resonator

Hi guys,

Long-time reader, first-time poster!

'04 Sedan owner. Exhaust has been getting louder and louder, so I took the car in to a shop - turns out the resonator has a hole in it. The mechanic presented two options:

1) replace tubing and resonator for $300+
2) eliminate the resonator all together and just run a pipe through to the muffler for $200+.

He said the sound in the cabin would be less than today, but not as quiet as stock, which I think I could live with for $100 savings.

What would y'all do? Would the removal of the resonator actually improve exhaust flow as well as save me dough on this repair?

Thanks in advance!

That guy is ripping you off. It shouldn't cost more than $100 to weld in a new resonator. And not more than $50 for the straight-pipe option.

I'm assuming you have stock exhaust? It will sound like crap with a straight-pipe, and the results will be unpredictable with an aftermarket resonator. If I were you, I'd just look for someone on here selling a used midpipe and swap that in. Get a coupe midpipe or 05/06 sedan midpipe. It will sound better and be cheaper.
