exhaust question.

hey i have a huge question! first, the basics. i have an 06 6mt coupe with mrev2 5/16 spacer and the stillen airbox and ztube. now my issue is : i just bought a used FI HFCs and stillen exhaust but the original owner had replaced the x pipe with a magnaflow x pipe.

i noticed a loss of torque across the powerband and a HUGE loss at the top end from before when my exhaust components were all stock.

i also throw a CEL but to my knowledge, this shouldnt decrease torque.

does anyone have any insight on what happened?

thanks for your help! i want to get advice before i go back to stock.

depending on what the cel is for it COULD decrease power because something is wrong and the motor is trying to put a bandaid on it. also the magnaflow xpipe is most likely not the problem because lots of people do that mod to that exhaust. there should not be a huge loss of power though from this exhaust. the cel might be an easy fix as easy as throwing in a non fouler

Get an OBD Scanner to check what code the CEL is throwing. Like Kenny said, it may be an easy fix.

Did you check the cats before you put them on to see if the cores were damaged/clogged? Like everyone else said run to the auto parts store and borrow a scan tool to check/clear the code, its most likely something like p0403 the cat inefficiency code you get when removing the stock cats. If the CEL is on the car will run in limp mode, meaning that the ecu will add fuel and pull timing in an effort to protect the engine.

get an osiris tune to recalibrate the A/F and timing to take advantage of those new mods and you'll get all that power back

Thanks for the input guys. I will take it to like goodyear or something to check the code. The cats were clean on the inside.
But what youre saying is that because the CEL is on my engine is running weaker? Because when i did the pedal ecu reset the car ran the same without the CEL with the exhaust.

Thanks again!!

The cel causes the engine to run in limp mode, basically runs richer and safer to prevent damage to the engine. It's a built in safeguard in the factory ecu but it causes you to feel a loss of power
