P1283 code when cold outside?
P1283 code when cold outside?
For some reason, when it starts to get cold out my car throws a P1283 O2 sensor code. Could I really need to replace it? I live in NJ, and at the end of last winter, I checked for vacuum leaks, and did some maintenance and replaced the bank 2 upstream and downstream o2 sensors, as they looked to be the ones failing based on my OBDII reader. I thought this fixed the issue as it didn't come on all summer(even though P1283 is for bank 1, but it looks to be working fine when I use the scanner), but now as winter is coming again and this morning was 40 degrees F, the code came back.
Do O2 sensors really fail like this? Ever heard of an O2 failing only when its cold out?

I haven't figured it out yet, but I think it is a vacuum leak. My car is in the shop for being rear ended right now, and they are going to do a vacuum test on it.
Does your car have a rough idle too? Mine did so this is what got me thinking..
I also found that when I leave the SEL light on for a long time without resetting it, after a month or so I will do a scan and get 3 more codes. Not sure the exact codes but they are pointing to the MAF, lean condition, and O2 sensor. All of this combined with the rough idle I think its a vacuum leak.

No my car doesn't have a rough idle and it was just smoke tested a couple weeks ago. I am getting retuned on Saturday so I'm hoping that will resolve my issue.
I actually just replaced my o2 sensor to test and no change. I will let you know if I get it resolved on Saturday.

I just got my car back last night figured it out. It was a vacuum leak I replaced all my couplers with silicone couplers and tighten down my PL enum. Sorry if this looks weird I'm using voice text on my phone lol but no code so far and it's really cold here 25 this morning
