P1283 code when cold outside?
For some reason, when it starts to get cold out my car throws a P1283 O2 sensor code. Could I really need to replace it? I live in NJ, and at the end of last winter, I checked for vacuum leaks, and did some maintenance and replaced the bank 2 upstream and downstream o2 sensors, as they looked to be the ones failing based on my OBDII reader. I thought this fixed the issue as it didn't come on all summer(even though P1283 is for bank 1, but it looks to be working fine when I use the scanner), but now as winter is coming again and this morning was 40 degrees F, the code came back.
Do O2 sensors really fail like this? Ever heard of an O2 failing only when its cold out?

I haven't figured it out yet, but I think it is a vacuum leak. My car is in the shop for being rear ended right now, and they are going to do a vacuum test on it.
Does your car have a rough idle too? Mine did so this is what got me thinking..
I also found that when I leave the SEL light on for a long time without resetting it, after a month or so I will do a scan and get 3 more codes. Not sure the exact codes but they are pointing to the MAF, lean condition, and O2 sensor. All of this combined with the rough idle I think its a vacuum leak.
