Fast intentions hfc vs hks cat back
Trying to figure out which one to go with. Looking for a more amplified stock tone. I don't want the ricer sound and people to hear me from blocks away if I'm driving normal through residential areas. Any suggestions on which will be closer to the coupe tone with my current mods?

Go on youtube and listen to clips of both. HKS is very expense for legit and kind of ruined due to thousdands and thousands of replicas on the market. It is also one of the loudest on the market along with RSR.
The Art pipes are wildly popular due to their low rasp and amplified stock tone.

Injen is also on the cheaper side and tame sound.

The HKS knock offs sound pretty much the same, but much lower quality materials and welds. More likely to have poor fitment and rust issues. They are pretty raspy though and known for highway drone. The magnaflow x muffler is a very popular option to reduce the rasp and drone for the HKS knockoffs (x02 and topspeed). Someone cut open one of the helmholtz resonators on the x02 and is empty and just for show.

i got both the hks and ART pipes^
stay away from knock off setups. im looking into the magnaflow xpipe as well-a lot of guys pair it with their HKS. gets rid of even more rasp
imo hks knock offs sound flat and have this high pitched metallic, like a high pinging sound. authentic hks has it a bit but not as extreme.

^^ Like I said the helmholtz resonators on the knock offs are empty and there just for looks. At least the HKS have have honeycomb in them and actually serve a purpose to reduce rasp/drone. I have heard both authentic and knock off side by side and it is a noticable difference. But still similar exhaust note.
The magnaflow xpipe does make a really big difference and not very expensive.

First of all you can't tell what a system sounds like by listening to a vid, what it was recorded on probably came from WallMart! HKS real dual exhaust system sounds good all by itself. Most of the restriction in our systems is caused by the OE cats, you won't believe the difference! FI HFCs will make it louder but unlike ART pipes you'll be able to breathe with the windows down. ART pipes makes our exhaust major stinky!
I suggest you attend a few meets and hear different exhaust systems in person, trust me that's the only way to find what you like!

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
lol you all have missed the important fact that the OP drives a sedan.
OP there is no catback system for the sedan by HKS, just the muffler that looks great and sounds good. The 2 drawbacks on it are it makes no additional power and introduces a good amount of drone to your exhaust sound. Plus it's pretty expensive for what you get so I'd recommend the HFC's or Motordyne's ART pipes which are the shizz. Only way to get the coupe sound on the sedan is to modify your car to allow the coupe exhaust to fit and that's a total pain in the butt.
You could also look at exhaust systems like Tanabe, Stillen, Borla etc. for more choices.
