You are going to almost always have a couple of hundred mile of smell on a new catback for a couple of reasons. One is going to be the residual oils, solvents, cleaners on the pipes which, if not cleaned before installation, will heat up and present both some odor and in much more limited instances, wisp of smoke. There should not be a billowing cloud. A second is that sometimes there are inspection, spec/model, or brand identification stickers, and once you start to pass the heat through the pipes it cooks and burns them. Best to remove those in the installation process as well, but a lot of wrench turners don't bother and you live with it for a couple of weeks.

The Borla adds a richer deeper tonality to the exhaust, but not volume. It mellows over time as the metal tempers. It can happily take the addition of high flow cats and headers without becoming noxious or difficult to endure either with the windows down or on longer trips. It is very lightweight. The knock is that there are a lot of connections with the Borla compared to other systems. The Injen is also a fine choice, fewer connects, but a bit more "shriek". As I was going FI and would be putting a lot more flow through the system, I opted for one that was more quiet to counter the higher noise potential from that flow.

The best way to address this, since so much is personal taste and driving temperment of each individual, is to ride in somebody's car that has the configuration(s) that you are considering before you buy. It really is the only way to be sure. Hope it works out the way you desire.

2004 Coupe 6MT Base 225/45/18 Front 245/45/18 Rear Michelin Pilot Sport (Summer) Road and Track August-04 5.90 14.20 14.4 100.6 112 0.92 66.7 Top Speed 155mph (governor limited)

2005 coupe auto w/exhaust Gtech results...

0-60 5.561 0-100 13.989 1/4 14.134@99.76

will take car up to local drag strip and compare #'s when it gets warmer.

final conclusion with sound lvl of exhaust... around 2k (which is where the car likes to stay when driving. the noise is minimally tough to tolerate, once you go past 2-2.2k the exhaust sounds fine and doesnt bother me.

I'd hate to say a mistake was made purchasing the injen perhaps borla would have been a preferred choice over injen regarding noise and my tolerance lvls. guess that street racer in his 20's is abit different from 33. just call me grampa. the exhaust will mellow out a bit and ill grow more tolerant of the db. lol time to fix the crappy factory bose to compensate for the louder exhaust

if those numbers above are acurate im quite pleased with the results.

good luck with your choices whatever they may be

Thumbs up

The exhaust is on and I love it. It is loud but not in a bad sense. It is very aggressive and deep, saw lots of heads turning to look at my car today as I drove around. Im very happy with this purchase!

Did it all with wrenches on some jackstands which alotted about 1 1/2-2 feet of clearance. All in all a very easy install. I have a question though. Do your tips sit perfectly in the center of the cutouts on the bumper or do they sit slightly closer towards the inner portions of the bumper cutouts? Mine arent centered, i tried loosening things and adjusting them but they wont center. I think my problem is the lil metal support piece that you attach to the mid pipes is slightly too short.

my left tip is more off center, sux, but in reality anyone looking at your exhasut isnt gonna be noticing the slightly off center tips , theyll be focused on those 2 fat cannies hangin low. nothing looks meaner.
