Motordyne ART pipes, XYZ w/resonator and Tanabe Medallion Exhaust?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to see if anyone has run this combo before or has heard anyone that is or was running it? I'm looking for something that is quality, without rasp, and overall quieter than the full Motordyne TDX2. Thanks for the help.

Really? I thought the Tanabe was one of the quieter exhausts. They advertise their system as being on the quiet side and under 93db. Are you sure its not another exhaust you are referring to? I would think a Tanabe Medallion, that is supposedly quieter, would be a good balance with the Motordyne ART pipes and Y-pipe with resonator. Then again, I don't know, which I is why I'm posting here

oop. looks like i was mistaken. just did some searching and yes it looks like its one of the quieter ones. im running xyz, arts, and nismo s-tune. zero drone, zero rasp. very nice and subtle deeper tone but can get loud when you step on it at 5k+ rpm

I'm running a Tanabe Medalion exhaust w/stock cats, HR y-pipe and while it's probably not as loud as other exhausts, I can't say it's "quiet" per se, at least not as quiet as stock. It has a really nice deep tone, and a great growl when you rev it up, but can be slightly droney between 2200-2750 RPM in warmer weather. That being said, I don't find it annoying or overbearing like other exhausts I've heard. Not sure how it would sound with test pipes though...

Thanks for the input. I understand that everyone has a different perspective of what quiet and loud are. Supposedly, the ART pipes are about the same or a bit quieter compared to HFCs as the ART test pipes are resonated as well. From the motordyne XYZ I would run a resonator, but maybe even get the Motordyne modular HFC instead. Since I already have the motordyne parts listed with the resonator, I'm trying to go for quiet option and supposedly Tanabe advertises their exhaust as being quieter. I'm supercharged as well so that is going amplify any exhaust system that I run so I want to start as quiet as possible. G35fromPA, what other exhaust systems have you heard and how do they compare to your Tanabe regarding loudness, quality, rasp, and drone? Thank you.

I haven't heard other exhausts in person, unfortunately, so I can't really compare it to anything other than stock, but it's noticeably louder than stock. There is no rasp to it, and the sound is a high quality, deep tone, though as mentioned, it can have some drone in warm weather under load in that RPM range.

I know this is an older thread but I currently have Art Pipes, went back to the stock y-pipe for now (the Begula one I had was giving me an odd hollow sounding drone) and have the Tanabee Medallion exhaust. Want to upgrade the Y-pipe before getting a tune. I've read a thread where the Motordyne resonated y-pipe sounded more "ricey" than using the non-resonated tube option with it. Also found some information on the Circuit Werks resonated y-pipe on a 350Z forum that said it got rid of the rasp and interior drone on a 350Z with headers, high flow cats and a Megan exhaust. Half the price of the Motordyne and available locally. Search of Circuit Werks turned up nothing here.

Didn't see a resonated version. Got some minor drone in the 2500-3000 rpm range and with a 6 speed, that puts it square in the Texas freeway speed limit (70-85 legal speeds) range. Some tip in drone I want to kill too.

Understandable.

Tanabe does not make a resonated version.

I would then recommend the Motordyne with the Resonator attachment

^^Me too. The XYZ isn't cheap per se but it's worth every penny.

Ended up ordering the Circuit Werks, the guys on the 350Z forum seemed happy with the results. Since the supplier was local, I got it already. So much quieter at part throttle acceleration and tip in throttle between 2500-3000. Only issue at all were the bolts to mount the resonator to the Tanabe exhaust were too big but the muffler shop had the correct size. Bolted right up, plenty of clearance everywhere.

Just couldn't see spending $150-200 more (prices seem all over the place) on the Motordyne resonated Y-pipe especially when a couple posts I found here said the resonator didn't help as much as expected. The Circuit Werks one had good reviews on systems that would be definitely louder/raspier than mine.

But don't worry, Motordyne already has plenty of my money.
