K&N filter dilema
Re: K&N filter dilema
Although I have not had the car in for the tranny TSB yet, I noticed a hardsh shifting problem back in Nov/Dec shortly after having the car, so I took it in, they could not reproduce it, & the TSB was not out yet, so I just logically asked the dealer to actually do a reset of the cars computer, & in fact, I noticed that it behaved for a couple of months & that I even got better gas mileage. I think there must be some kind of bug in the fuzzy logic algorythm they use for the "Learning" feature of the auto tranny, that over time, something in the programming get's a bit funky, as after the reset the shifting problems went away for a while, just to slowly creep back, same with the mileage.
I have not tried the battery trick, but I know it is about 12 hours to REALLY drain the computer, & yes, hitting brakes or soemthing after a disconnect helps to more rapidly discharge any juice in the system, just remember the windows.......

I will try the 12 hour battery disconnect this weekend and let
you know how it worked. I have the 5AT Sedan and I understand
the windows do not respond like the coupe when the battery is
disconnected. But I will roll them down before the disconnect.
Thanks for your response!

Yeah, it's true, on the sedan, you do not have to worry about the windows. On the Coupe if you do not roll them down, they will jam in the door, etc, since there is no power to auto drop them the 1/8th of an inch or so that they go down.... Please do let us know what happens....

Re: K&N filter dilema
I disconnected the negative terminal of the battery for 14 hours
this weekend and I do believe the computer reset this time.
It looks like my gas mileage has returned to normal....
will need to finish the tank of gas to verify, but the needle has
not dropped as fast as before. I will confirm this after the tank
has been refilled. Thanks so much for everyones help!

Re: K&N filter dilema
Dilema solved! The 12-14 hour battery disconnect actually
reset the computer. Gas mileage has returned to normal.
Thanks to this board the following fact has been proved:
It takes at least 12 hours of battery disconnect to reset the
damn thing. Now I don't have to look at my $50 K&N filter
sitting on my workbench instead of in my G35
