Hissing from under the car? Raspy?

Hi All,

I'm a new owner as of yesterday of a 03 6MT and coming from a MKIV Supra Twin turbo, the g35c is still up there in terms of performance.

In any case, I noticed that when I'm shifting (or revving for that matter) and the revs fall from about 2500 to 2000 rpm, there is this hissing combined with alil bit of rattle coming from under the car...near the driver side door. I have Kinetix test pipes on the car and was curious if that's the "raspy" noise that they refer to? It seems to be the only issue on the car so far and I'm praying it's normal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't know about the rattle, but the hissing sound is normal with test pipes that allow the air to flow unobstructed. This is totally different than rasp. My definition of rasp is Civic with a fart can. I think you know the sound I am talking about and it would be heard under acceleration. If you have the resonated pipes, there is probably very little or no rasp at all.

The kiinetix site describes the noise as "raspy" to be normal so I was wondering what you guys thought. It's definitely more of a hissing sound from 2-2.5k.

Thanks for the reply.

Anyone else who can confirm please post up. Thanks

Can't help with the hissing, I don't have test pipes and I'm only guessing about what the rattle could be comming from.
Homie, I was just getting ready to post that...great minds think alike!

I believe they were put on by Infiniti by the previous owner. I dont notice any shakes when I had my girl push the gas. I called Kinetix and they were awesome with their customer service. They believe the noise is the "raspiness" they described on their site since I have the test pipes with the resonators. I just wanted to ask some of you who have those pipes if that's what it sounds like. Its hard to describe over the phone sometimes. The best thing I can say is a hissing with some rattle to the noise. I'm pretty sure its the "BBs in a can" noise I've heard people say but it's always nice if people can confirm. I'm probably just paranoid.

read this. In this thread they have a video of what you are talking about. the hissing noise is normal with test pipes and RT Cats. Its air resonance.

Thanks so much for the help guys. It means a lot to me.

Demonteverde321, thanks a ton for taking the time to post that link up.

You guys will probably see me posting more on this forum later on. I'm from Supraforums where I've been a senior member for some time and I hope to make this my new home. The guys there who have g35s seem to agree this is the best g35 site so far.
