Stillen Intake and 350Z duct pics
Well, I finally got around to taking some pics of my setup. What you are seeing is a Stillen Hi-Flow box, 350Z Intake ducting from the MAF sensor to the Plenum. Oh, that is an authentic 7 wire clear jacket Gordon Gee Grounding kit. Enjoy.

Nifty. Do you happen to know what the box at the end of the stock intake (at the plenum end) is supposed to do? Unfortunately, its absence leaves a big wedge cut out of your engine cover. Speaking of which, did you paint yours, or is that just the light? Mine has a red "V6" and darker edges.

JDMan, Merlin is correct. The sedan gets less flare for the engine cover. Oh well.. Anyway, back to your intake question. The box on the stock intake is part of your resinator (noise dampener). Without it, the car is noticably louder when the throttle is mashed.

Always thought the resonator piece that hangs down by the header would cause heat soak and affect performance. Replacing the 'pipe' makes it look neater IMHO. Even better if it helps performance wise. Still think though we need some aftermarket intake manifold to get even more.

Damn, I keep doing that thing that Sedan owners secretly suspect we do. I.e. forget that there's any other G35 model but the Coupe.
So that IS a noise dampener. Interesting. I've avoided doing more than change the filter because I'm not a fan of intake noise (exhaust rumble good, intake shriek bad), but driving around knowing I have a strangle-box on my stock parts is going to be tough.
Would you guess that the Z's duct is quieter than a typical aftermarket intake? Also, would the Z's duct have fit the stock box, or did you need the Stillen High-Flow to make it fit?

Yeah JDMan, us sedan owners do have a stake in this forum too!
There is even more to the resonator than just that box on top. If you pull it out, you will also see a hollow plastic piece about 8 inches tall and 3 inches wide attached to the bottom of the stock duct. I'll see if I can get some pics.
I have not heard another aftermarket intakes besides the Stillen, so I can't give you an opinion on loadness. For me, the sound is not too loud or too annoying. The 350Z duct will work with the OEM box.
